For some reason my control on Robotron stopped working.

It will coin up inside the coin door and the player 1 and 2 lights will come up.

But both joysticks and Player 1 and 2 buttons, do nothing.
It used to work just fine. So far I've unplugged and replugged in all
of the plugs/connectors and changed batteries (I thought that was the problem at first, because I lost FREEPLAY).

Any suggestions now?
Thanks,
Steve

So, you credit it up (or have it on freeplay), hit the start button, and nothing? If it's on freeplay, try adding a credit anyway to see if it helps.

Your interface (widget) board with the two connector (orange wires) on it is for your controls.

If everything looks okay, drop down the control panel and see if a ground wire came loose...

Thanks Modessitt,

The interface board looks OK, nothing burned, as well as the plugs
on the board. Looks like the control panel is still grounded, see the photo below.
Both joysticks have a wire going to the middle then the metal bar in the middle has the wire going into the cabinet, screwed down to another grounding wire.

That's not the "ground" I was referring to. There is a ground wire that goes around to every switch. If there is no ground connection back to the boards/power supply, then the switches won't work. Check each switch to make sure they still have two wires attached, then trace it back through the connector (check the pins) to the boards/power supply...

BTW - I did once have a game where the switches stopped working (or a couple worked and the rest didn't - can't remember exactly) and the problem turned out to be with the 6502 processor on the CPU...

Interface board Pin 10 at 3J3 (the ground) Happened to my Joust a few weeks ago, the pin was broken. I would check this.

Bring up the diagnostics (press the advance button, if it goes to bookkeeping, press the up/down button and press the advance button until the diagnostic screens come up) and go to the switch test screen. This will tell you if the switches are registering.

FIXED IT!!!

So after testing the ground back to the Interface board and having continuity, I also tested the ground pin on that board to a ground and still had continuity. So I took the board off and re-flowed ALL of the pins.

Hooked it back and, and like MAGIC it WORKS again!!!

Thanks guys!

Sweet! This drove me nuts for months. It would work most of the time but every once in a while I would power it up and got nothing. Glad you got it to work. I just figured out the problem with the sound board in my Robotron and now I am having a problem with the PS...Its always something!:HEADBANG:
