Robotron Cabinets

I have seen some Joust cabarets with the curved front. I don't know if they were factory or somebody hacked a Robo cabaret. The arcade flyer archive only shows upright and cocktail for Joust.

You have seen JOUST cabarets (minis) within slanted fronts??? Williams didn't make any Joust minis, although I have a seen one that someone made from a Williams mini cabinet and Joust UR conversion side-art.

To my knowledge, Robotron minis were only ever made in the one cabinet design, but did come in two versions of side-art (the initial proto/short run design, then later to what people are used to seeing).

To clarify what I am talking about, robotrons URs have 2 styles, the bottom of the control panel ether curves in or goes straight down. Joust and Moon Patrol have a slant one the bottom past the CP.

hmm... I wonder how the Robotron cabaret would look next to a taito row? Is the curve and height exactly the same?

Tom
Are you thinking the Taito minis or trim-lines? Either way, I doubt it due to the height of the cabinets (Taito minis are much shorter).

The curved style is the original Robotron design
(...as per the blue line on the side art which fit perfectly )

According to legend, the straight cabinets were Bubbles cab
(...which came after Robotron and was a far less popular game )
and many of those Bubble cabs became Robotron cabs due the extra production

I will double-check when I get home but I'm pretty sure mine looks like the one in the far right in this pic.

Yeah, my MAME cab that was a converted/gutted Robotron looks like the one on the right (after stripping off 2 layers of paint ;) )
