FS Game: Robotron Cabaret

Would be worth more with original boards IMO.. Jrok in that machine without set up to play other games would suck.. You would have to make a new CP if you could even fit all of the buttons you need.. There would be no art option.. Robotron Mini would be my last choice to JROK. He is asking way to much for that setup IMO...

mini

he killed it when he gutted it. sometimes best to leave stuff alone. woulda bought a cheap cab to jrok instead of destroying this cabaret. no offense to seller just my 2 cents (don't mean much)

I agree that the cabaret deserves an original boardset. I definitely wouldn't sell it for top dollar unless it did. But thats just me. Jrok is probably a little more reliable. Maybe the op didn't gut it. I just bought a robotron mini that was jammatized to bottom of the ninth. Ugh. After i replaced the monitor, the first thing I did was pop my jrok into it for some robotron goodness. Joust is also a trip with robotron controls. That was early on in the deconversion though. I have since restored the boards, wiring, ps, bezel, marquee, cp and such. Only thing missing is the light fixture that goes on the back door and illuminates the bezel. Anyway.... If the market will bear it....

Is it just me, or does it look like the Artwork on the sides was 'hand painted' ???

Zoom in and take a close look (upper right by marquee) lines are not straight!

I don't see anything about him gutting it in the eBay description. Might not have the original Robotron board in there, but I saw this:
The control panel and wiring harness are unmodified
So, presumably, one could be put back in.

Mine looks like that, too. My understanding is that paint touch-ups were done at the factory - and not done well. Mine has the same gray splotches (different types of gray) on the cab. IIRC, you can see the same thing on the NIB ones that appeared not too long ago.

Mine is in much better physical shape than this unit, all original with a Robotron boardset and all controls and lights working, and it didn't sell on KLOV for $900.

Lacquer through brass stencils.. a lot of the pinball stencil jobs of that era have some fuzziness to them. What sucks is that sloppiness is part of the charm and impossible to reproduce with vinyl stencils stuck on the cab. Oh well.

I have NEVER come across a WMS cabaret cabinet, would be hard to pass up if I did.

True.

Here are the charming imperfections on my side art:

...but they got the front right! :D

.........I'm pretty sure he has the original board in there, too - just not working. His name is Tim, cool dude and lots of knowledge about arcades and console stuff. He works in the video game industry creating manuals and art packaging - that game is in the basement of his office.

He is a KLOVer, although I don't think he comes here often - djpubba:

I originally met him a couple years ago when I traded a TON of old school console and cartridge stuff for his DK/D2K machine (no longer own, this makes me sad :( ).

I recently met up with him again and traded pretty much the rest of my old school console/cartridge hoard for his I, Robot :)

This picture was taken before I got it, you can see it in the background:

When I was there he mentioned he would be selling the Robotron. I bet if someone was seriously wanting this he would cut a deal for you, just mention KLOV and you're a collector - ya never know. The JROK board can always be sold so you could subtract that from the price of the machine, too.

He also has one other machine left, a pretty rare one - Snacks 'n Jaxson. He said he would take $2,500 (firm) - he had it almost sold recently, but the deal fell through....

I've never even seen pics of an original Snack 'n Jaxson, but many years ago, on some collector's website, they showed how they made one, had to get the cabinet, create the marquee art, etc.. Ahh..google to the rescue - http://www.o-sd.com/arcadecollecting/forum/index.php?topic=87.0

Damn if Tim is selling his games what is going on. He also did the redraw of all the Crazy Climber Deluxe art. He sent his broken plexi panel to me and I flattened it in the oven about 10 years ago then scanned it. He redrew it all perfect as he is a graphic artist.

I would think that Robotron is likely original inside with an adaptor (waiting for a PM). If he sold his I-Robot also thats crazy. That Robo Mini is an easy restore. Fix the original board, sell the JROK and repaint and it will be mint again. Stencils are under available from PROK. He stated he has a 3rd kid on the way so I am assuming he needs cash or life got the better of him. Another great person is leaving the hobby.

He also did the free play roms for Crazy Climber. Here is his site : http://www.arcadecollecting.com

According to the auction the original wire harness is not hacked at all meaning it has an adaptor kit for the JROK board. This is an easy restore for an original survivor. I know I paid a bit more for a NIB a few years back but those are all gone now. Tim is a good guy and who ever buys this is getting an original game plus a JROK board. Easy fix and I am sure you could make a private offer to get it for a bit less. The bottom looks like an easy fix and a bit of careful touch up could make this game minty. I think it is worth $1000 as is.

Hey y'all. This is my auction.

I appreciate you guys looking out for me. I'm sad to have to part with the last of my games that I've tried the hardest not to have to sell. I recently went through a bankruptcy, which wrapped up just a few months ago, and managed to still hang on to these last games. But the final blow to all hobby/luxuries was when my son was born two months early and had to spend five weeks in the NICU.

I've been trying to get the max possible dollars for these but am at a point now where I am going to have to take whatever I can get.

Some info on the Robotron: I bought this guy from Yogi, an old school dealer in the South Bay back around 1998. Sometime around 2001 the PCB died. I never planned to sell it, so I did not care about keeping it original/maximizing the value. I cared about enjoying it the most, so I turned it into a multigame and sold the PCB for parts. I still did not modify the wiring harness. The multigame setup is pretty outdated now, so when I finally decided I had to part with it, I noticed JROK had just come out with an update of his so I got one of those along with an adapter and installed it. I must say it works fantastic and I really like the fast boot straight to Robotron and the bonus ability to play the other games. All of other games play pretty decently with the Robotron control panel except Defender/Stargate. Sinistar even works very well with the rotated controls option, which I was not expecting.

The only issue is I've lost the power part of the harness and the original power supply PCB needs repair (I have the JROK PCB running off it's own supply so it works fine). If you have a Robotron PCB/power supply, I have a nice amp tool for connectors. If you brought an original Robotron PCB with you, I'd wire it up and install it on the spot.

I'd take $900 if you could come get it.

I saw your ad on eBay and emailed you offering to trade a few items but then you mentioned you had the baby on the way. I'm local and would love to work something out. I've wanted a robotron for awhile now. :)

Guys whats a Robotron boardset worth maybe $150 and you can sell the JROK boardset for more than that. It is all original with a PS issue. Tim needs to sell so it is someones gain.

I would think $200-$300 would make it look like new (boardset, cab repairs, air brush or masked paint repairs).
