Robotron: 2084: Hand-Eye Coordination

Everyone might hate me for saying this, but...

I passed on a Robotron for $150 here locally the other day.

And I'd do it again. I just don't understand that game. I know it's a highly-desired game, I just have 0 interest in it...

To each his own, my man. I would have snagged it just to flip it even if I hated it. You could have had yourself a nice little gain there.

Im completely addicted to Robotron right now. Its by far the game I have played the most since moving.

Im stuck at 335K :(

Robotron is a game I almost never played BITD, about the only Williams title within biking distance was Defender. Probably at some point I played Robotron, but it didn't stand out for me then in the galaxy of arcade games.

Fast forward to a few years ago, I play Robotron at a few auctions, but the game never last long and pass on buying one.

A couple of years ago one pops up cheap on Craigslist, in fact I think I actually traded an old model airplane for it because the seller mentioned that in his ad. I get it all fixed up and start playing it, HOLY CRAP what a GREAT GAME!!!!!

Out of all the games I've got, Robotron get's the most play. I get into the zone playing it, and the rush of a good game keeps me coming back for more.

Don't let first impressions keep you away from one of the truly great classics. My only regret is not getting one years ago.

I liked Robotron as a kid, I played it a few times but never for very long. Recently I got a jrok board (mainly to play Joust and Defender) and started playing Robotron again. Now I barely play Joust and spend most of my time in Robotron. Awesome game once you get into it.

I am currently in the 220k range. Still Learning the basics.

I love playing Robotron on my Multi-Williams. It's the kids' second favorite game after Bubbles.

Seeing those higher scores has motivated me, I need to break 2 million! I really run out of steam around a million points but I did manage to hit around 1.5 million yesterday. I don't know how much more I have in the tank beyond that score. I just don't think I have the skills to be better than that.

Robotron is an awesome game.

I tend to play on the TGTS (5 men only) settings, as it's much shorter duration game that way.

Been practicing this week...

Managed to hit 2.2 million tonight. Very nice.

Maybe I could do better....

Damn...it's a good thing I can't take back karma! :p :D

I don't know how you guys get such good scores on it. I'm stuck at around 550K and am physically exhausted by then (and usually ringing wet from sweat)

There are times in the game when you can get a little rest, such as when there is only 1 enemy left on the screen and you wait a while before shooting it. Even this extra little bit of time is a nice break and can reduce fatigue.

For more advanced players with tons of extra lives they can just walk away for a little while.

I still have no idea how someone played that game for a few days straight.

Drugs.

Swerve:

My dad used to work at a carlot, and they had a big promo one time in the 80's where they were going to give away a car. Whoever could stand up with at least one hand on the car for the longest, would win it. Every few hours they would give you a 15 minute break, to go to the bathroom. You could have family and friends visit, etc.

Anyways, the day it starts there's like 20 or 30 people they've let do it, a few drop off really quick, but after about 12 hours it's down to about 8 people. One guy is young, is in the army, all this shit, looks great. One of the other guys is ALL fucked up on something, his eyes are all messed up, he looks like shit. There's about 6 other people, one by one they drop off like flies, and it's been like a day and a half or two days. The guy that was all fucked up starts looking better and better... the guy in the army has his dad come visit him, and he brought him some food, and a big bottle of gatorade.

The kid drinks the gatorade, and 15 minutes later has diarrhea and has to take his hand off the car to run to the bathroom.

Can you believe that ? LOL The drugged out dude won the car.

endurance. and luck. i try to make it through the first 4 levels without losing a man and also attempting to pick up every human. try to do the mommy trick on the brain wave. do your best to stay alive through the tank wave. getting all the family members is the biggest. i've been able to hit 175k or so on the tank wave by grabbing up all the family members before the tanks start shooting.

Now that I have my MultiWilliams with a jrok board up and running, I was looking for pointers. Some great advide in this thread. I can only get to about 83,000 so far...

I have found that the single most important tip gained from this thread is to keep your eyes on your guy...NO MATTER WHAT!

I was stuck in the 100k range because I was always worried about what I was shooting instead of where I was going.

After a week or two of employing this new strategy I am consistently above 200k and topped out at 357k

This is by far my favorite game and the one I am the worst at, so Im glad to see that I am not alone in my struggles!

I spent a number of months playing compulsively because I was determined to master it. After reaching goal and not playing everyday felt like coming off an addiction. Learning went from curiosity, to frustration, to tenacity, to adrenaline rush to finally Zen like mindlessness. Craziest game rush I've ever done.

I do the exact opposite. I usually "zone out" if you will and try to take in as much of all the screen as possible looking for holes, humans and places to run. The ONLY time I solely focus on my guy is when there is a bunch of enforcers on the screen shooting at me.

I can do the above for hours on end on a game thats on factory settings. I think I've walked away for 60+ million point games in the past.

That said I gota say that the JROK board is the best multiboard out there for this game. MAME and the older Arcadeshop boards just dont get the timing of the game right as far as I can tell.

Thanks man- I'm stoked too!

I'm going to try to focus on my guy AND "zone out" and see which style I do better at!

Sweet! It looks very nice!

I try to keep one eye on the dude, and the other eye on the rest of the shite. Though I still have yet to break a million, so take that for what it's worth.
