Finally after years of searching and months of waiting, Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters touched down at Galaxy Blue last night. I was so excited to get it into place next to its younger brother Primal Rage that I forgot to take pics of the cab in its entirety. But since it fit right in so nicely, here are pics of it in its new home:

Couple things of note:

First, for some reason I always thought/ hoped the entire marquee would light up, not just a rectangle in the center.

Also, love the bongs and the speech, sooooo reminiscent of Paper Boy and 720. 3rd, though the 19" monitor has a great pic:

why didn't they go with a full on 25 incher like they did later in Primal Rage?

It very much makes me think of what Midway did with Rampage. And since they did go with the 19, why no graphic bezel? At least Rampage (and Arch Rivals) had that. You'd think that with such an elaborate marquee and 2-piece CPO they'd at least have tried to tie the whole thing together with some sweet comicbooky art around the monitor rather than the old boring glossy black tag board they used on the system 1 and 2 games.

I also much prefer the later fully hinged CP on PR vs the half-assed hinged CP on EFTPOTRM.

Having these 2 side by side really does make you realize that they did evolve and make some improvements on these cabinets in the 5 years that span these 2 releases.

Now quick, somebody find me a dedicated Skull and Crossbones!

Kids love the game, so that's sweet. Not sure why my 2 player dude runs into the left corner and won't let you get him out though. I assume the pots on the bottom of he Hall effect stick need to be adjusted?

looks awesome Phet. I am not familiar with either of these cabinets. Does Primal Rage have a huge sub-woofer? or just a bigger speaker?

Yea that marquee deserves a mod to light the top and maybe bottom bits. Super cool though.

I think the manual has a tutorial on adjustments.

You have to get Rich's (TOG) cpo and Marquee. Absolutely amazing!!! Just finished the restore. Still waiting for the sideart but really I was blown away. The marquee is one piece, silkscreened onto the plexi. Not a graphic behind the plexi like the original. I just can't explain how much better it looks, the dept and vibrant colors. Wow!!

Oh believe me I know. I'll order that up soon. Yours looks awesome!

Not a very common game. Congrats on the pickup. Glad to see you back in the saddle again after years of construction. Hopefully I'll be able to get up there to see the new diggs soon.

Yeah I'll have a decent size party when everything is finally done. Even though we've been in the house three months, there are still boxes stacked everywhere, including the garage and one entire wall of the game room. I finally secured a storage facility a mile down the road, so I'll finally be able to clean out the clutter. Though my arcade is much cooler, it sucks downsizing from a three stall garage to a 2.

I like this game and I'm extremely excited you have finally found one. I'm also glad that the kids like it and your game room is coming along. I'm elated that you found a close storage facility to take care of your space issues. I just generally approve of everything you're currently doing up there on the lake.

This is one of the most wonderfully emotional posts I've read in a while. You've warmed my heart forum member "OldTymeToys".

Sweet deal, Shawn. It's definitely a unique game. I personally like the little instruction/tutorial bubbles that pop up as you play. Cool sound too. Yours looks a lot like the one my girlfriend got not too long ago. It's crazy how discolored the CPO and marquee get. I'm trying to convince her to get Rich's stuff too, but he needs to get the sideart done! Anyway, looks awesome!

Thanks Jimmy. It is amazing how yellowed the artwork on these gets. It's actually the artwork and unique marquee that got me interested in this game. The B-movie meets comic book feel is exactly my cup of tee. I had always dreamed of having this game sitting next to my Creature from The Black Lagoon. Too bad that pairing never got to happen.

Speaking of Creature, do you have future plans of getting any pins again?

Our CPOs definitely faded the same way! I had no idea that it was supposed to be blue until I saw Rich's repro!!

Don't know if you need it, but Kendra told me recently that they have the films for the dedicated side art and that Rich is working on it. She said it will be available soon, and based on my recent experiences, soon is meaning soon. :) I don't know if I can switch out my faded marquee, though. (Sorry, Jimbo!) It's in great shape and there's a part of me that has trouble installing a repro when the original isn't significantly damaged. Then again, you can argue that it IS damaged because it's suffering sun damage . . . Crap! I don't know yet, but I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with yours. (Now if the whole marquee lit up on the repro, that would be an easy choice!!)

I hope your joystick issue is an easy fix. If you need, I have an extra sensor I got on eBay that I can give to Jim to give to you the next time he sees you. It's just the modern replacement for the old ones, so it's nothing special, but I replaced the sensors on my I, Robot hall effect joystick and they work well.

I appreciate that Carrie. Maybe new sensors is what I need, cuz so far this joystick blows. I'm having a hard time replacing the artwork too, but now that I can see how faded/yellowed it is I may just have to give in. It tickles me more than a mustache on a coin purse to know you own this game too.
