It has begun. Tonight I took a deep breathe and went to town on this machine. On one side every glued joint was broken loose and only held together by small nails. It was shakier than the US economy. I knew what I had to do.Rip it apart and see if i can reglue the cabinet back together.
The lower rear panel has seen better days. I will probably make a new panel to replace it :

The rails for the t-molding have come apart , and trust me when i say this is the good side :

Looking inside you can see lots of unpainted places where the cabinet has shifted and random nails coming through in a desperate attempt to hold it together :

The only way to make this game whole again is by taking it apart and regluing it :

This is the bad side, the inside rail that would be towards the top of the game has broken free. I am holding it there so you can get an idea where it would normally be :

Toasted edge connector :

This game was slammed around or dropped so hard it broke the wood that the transformer is mounted to:

the bottom rear corner is toast too :

This should be a fun one, stay tuned...

Scuse the French but that thing is seriously fucked up. It's awesome you're willing to revive this "dead" patient

Awesome that you're willing to put in the time to restore it! Looks a lot like a Tempest cabaret that I did where I had to replace both sides of the cabinet due to swelling.

The more pix I see the more I am happy I made the decision not to pick that baby up. That is what I call some serious WORK that needs to be done.

The more I look at it the happier I am that I did pick it up. I don't consider restoring games work. I consider it a fun challenge, and when im done it will be one of my most cherished pieces.

If anyone can get `er done, it's you brother Dave. I'm all up for a challenge, but that one is a little too far gone for my tastes... I like to have at least a solid foundation. I look forward to playing her one day.

Amen. Looking forward to the progress on this one.

Well it aint much but it's a start. After spending a lot of time coming up with a plan of attack for all the different pieces and damaged sections, I went out and got some materials to repair the cabinet and then enlisted my neighbor to help me out and fabricate a couple pieces. The goal is to keep it as original as possible but some pieces just can't be salvaged.

The lower rear panel is really trashed :

Thanks to my neighbor I have a new one :

This piece is too warped to re-use so it was replaced too :

This is where it goes :

The old rusty leg leveler were replaced by the small ones from Bob Roberts :

Not a lot of progress yet but a step in the right direction.

That's a great start on a fun project. The ones that require a lot of work are the ones that turn out to be the best.
