The Ted in my game has a wierd problem. His eyes work then not work then they are fine then he'll close them and they wont open ,then all of a sudden they work again. What do I need to check.Thought I would ask you guys first before a tear him apart. Thanks .PEACE!!!

I have the same problem. Sometimes the eyes open and close and sometimes they just stay closed. Both heads had problems when I bought it recently. One had a burnt coil and the other a broken linkage. After seeing what was involved in removing both heads, I ordered the necessary parts to totally rebuild them. I did not want to have to play with them again. I replaced all coils, linkage, and springs. About $120 in parts for both. I figured that it was good insurance. So, the problem is not in the heads themselves. While in the test mode, and the eyes did not open, I grounded the drive transistor and the eyes opened. Now I am thinking that it is a software communication error. So, I had a friend burn me a new rom which also gave me the latest version. Not it. I replaced the ribbon cable that connects the CPU and Driver board. Not it. My next step is to replace the drive transistor as it may not be switching all the way on or off. Any opinions on possible solutions or theories are appreciated. Am I making any sense? Just letting you know what I have checked so far.

rzgrip: sounds like a bad transistor - especially if the game already had a burnt coil you can be sure that its associated transistor (and pre-driver transistor, those very small transistors) need replacement too - never replace a burnt coil without checking/replacing its transistors
also check for burnt traces on the driverboard in the area of that transistor

phatchit: did it work before or did you buy the game like this ?
sounds like an intermittent contact to me, can be in the coil or somewhere in the wiring

Thanks for the insight. I usually preach your quote but I somehow forgot. I just discovered your website. Loads of information! Thank you for sharing it. Now to pull the driver board......

I'm currently working on a total overhaul of the site (new layout, review old articles, ..) so any comments, suggestions, .. are welcome.
Typos, things that are plain wrong or you have an other opinion of, .. I want to hear it all :)
