I've noticed during gameplay on my RoadBlasters cab that occasionally not all of the sounds will play. For example, occasionally I'll start a new level and the sound of the engine won't be there, but the gunfire will be, or the screeching. Other times it won't play all of the instruments/beats for the theme music. This doesn't happen consistently after certain levels or sounds, but it has happened to me multiple times (with power-cycling in between). It won't be the same sound effect or tone every time, and will "fix" itself either after a level change or by starting a new game (no power cycle).
I did the Sound Test from the self-test menu and it says the CPU is "good" and doesn't throw any ROM errors. I run in to similar sound issues when trying to play individual sounds from the Sound Test menu. I can play one sound number, scroll through to some others and play them, then come back to the first one I tried and it won't play again. Resetting the sound CPU will sometimes make it work again only to act up later. Often times the speech sound numbers (~95 and above) just won't work, despite the thing saying "speech chip test" when I go to the Sound Test menu.
I've tried re-seating the ROM daughterboard. I'm getting a consistent 4.98v at all 5v test points and on various ICs on both boards. I wonder if there's something wrong with the chip select logic? Or is this a known software bug?
Any ideas as to what would be causing this weird issue? Thanks
