I have an Atari sys1 cab with Roadblasters in it. It is very load and the audio board does not have a volume control on it. So I bought a AR II board that matched the schematics that I have and has a volume control on it. However when I went to install it I found that it is not like the large audio board that is in my cab. The connectors are completely different.

Anyone know how to convert the wiring to change the audio boards?

Yeah we need pictures. You might be talking about the Audio II board. An 'AR' is an 'Audio and Regulator' board which is completely different. I think Roadblasters came with a switch-mode power supply too.

OK here are the pics.
The oldAR is the one that is currently in the cab. The left one.
The newAR is the one with volume control that I would like. The right one.

The left one is an AR-III, the right one is an Audio II. Completely different boards. If there's not a volume POT on the AR-III, maybe it's located somewhere else?

Mine has an ARIII and if I recall correctly it has a pot mounted on the board, I'm wondering if the reason it's so loud is because somebody removed the volume control and replaced it with a short or a resistor of too low a value.

AR

It looks like some one has adapted your RB to run with the older style AR. If you look there are wires soldered directly to the audio out test points. I bet they are going directly to the speakers. The easisest thing to do would be to put in an inline volumn pot. Or you could convert it back to the standard AR 3 with a little more hassel. It seems to me someone mentioned on here that there RB had a DIg dug/Centipede style power brick and AR and it looked origional. Maybe the person that did this had one of those styles that he was robbing parts off of to make this one work.

Yes, this system 1 cab has the linear power supply and the older AR board. I have seen this setup in other atari cabs such as my star wars. Thought it was original.

It appears that to change over to the newer audio board I will need to change the power supply and the wiring in addition to the audio board. Not sure it is worth it.
