Today I installed Road Blasters into my System 1 Cabinet (change it up a bit from Marble Madness). Got everything wired up, but unfortunately there's a glitch. I did some searching and reading and it seems that the SLAGS chips go bad. These are numbered 137415-001 Atari.

My little dude wanted to play so bad he did so with the glitches and all (1st pic). After dinner I pulled some of the SLAGS, ran the eraser on them and reseated them. Noted that the one at P4/5 seems to have rust on the inside? Reseating didn't change the situation. To see if a problem could be isolated I swapped P4/5 and P2/3. Problem moved (see 2nd pic).

To make sure it was the one originally at P4/5, I swapped P2/3 and P6/7. Problem moved again (3rd pic).

Anyway, my guess is one of the SLAGS is bad. Looking for consensus from folks that might have been there.

There's a gent (ColinD) on the UK board that seems to be reverse engineering the SLAGS (details here: http://www.ukvac.com/forum/reverse-engineering-atari-slags-ics_topic340909.html) but I don't know if he's making it available for sale.

Anyone got any of these available?

There's no real diagnostic for the graphic glitches as far as I can tell with those. Depends on how the chip has failed. Take one from your MM cart and swap it in for the suspect chip. If it goes away, then you know you've got it. I have a couple extra if you need one.

Thanks for the suggestion. I pulled one of the ICs off Marble Madness and replaced the 'rusted' IC. Worked like a charm.

I do not want to swap over a SLAGS every time I switch board sets on the System 1 cab. Anyone got a spare one they could part with to make my Marble Madness whole?
