Im looking to replace a pair of Roadblasters Speakers. The manual calls for Atari part 148007-003 but i don't see a replacement part listed on the regular arcade parts sites.

In looking around it seems that system 1 games shipped with different speakers. Trying to keep the screw holes the same if possible. Trying to match as close to original as i can in a new part.

The APB manual has this excerpt:

148007-104
4 '/> -Inch, 8 0, 10 W, Shielded Speaker (Acceptable substitute is part no. 148007-003)

So that would obviously be a substitute, There's one of the 148007-104 speakers on Ebay now.

If you search the ebay "Collectibles>Arcade, Jukeboxes & Pinball" group for "speaker" you'll get a LOT of hits. However, if you look through them once (just looking at the thumbnail), and then return every few days and sort by "New" you can effectively find what you need. It's worked for me anyway. I'll admit that it's quite painful though.

I replaced the speakers in my Roadblasters upright, but it was many years ago, and I don't recall exactly what I used. I know that I got them from Parts Express.

It might have been something like this:
https://www.parts-express.com/goldwood-gw-204-8s-4-shielded-poly-woofer-8-ohm--290-372

Pull a speaker out of your Roadblasters. Look at the back and the impedance should be printed on it (4 or 8 ohm). [If it isn't marked, then use your multimeter to measure the resistance across the terminals. A resistance around 3 ohms suggests a 4 ohm impedance. A resistance around 6 ohms suggests an 8 ohm impedance.] Then measure the cone diameter and max outside diameter of the speaker as well as the cutout diameter of the hole that it mounts into.

With that info, go to Parts Express and find a new speaker with the same impedance that will fit into the original hole and be of a similar cone size to the original.

I know that I used a shielded speaker due to the proximity to the monitor. This may or may not actually be necessary. Using a regular (unshielded) speaker gives you a lot more options to choose from.

Roadblasters speakers were subs. I replaced these with newer speakers of the same impedance (they were blown but kept them anyway). These sounded much nicer than the originals in the high end of the frequency range.

Here are some pics of my original RB speakers and replacements that fit perfect. If you can find shielded I would go with those as I do get some slight discoloration when my game is positioned on a western wall that my degaussing tool could not completely correct.
