Is the original ridge racer any good? Their is a good price for one of them in my area and wondered what the going rate for a sit down is?

It is kinda fun, but it is a huge game. The size (and lack of replay value, as well) makes it a pretty cheap game to buy, and a hard one to sell.

I bought mine for $200, and it took a long time to sell it for that.

If you have the space though, it is a fun game and worth the price since it is so much cheaper than other racers. The cabinet is great...just too big.

so 300 with everything working is too high? I think it has a 33inch monitor in it doesnt it?

If you like the game, and have the space for it, then no, I don't think it is. It may take you a long time to sell it for that though if you decide you want to get rid of it. For a lot of the large games, someone has to really want it to pay a lot for it.

If I had a lot of space (and for me, that would mean space for 200+ games), I would buy another one, and probably pay $300 or so for it. Since I am limited to less than 20 games right now, I wouldn't pick up a free one.

I think we all try to buy games for less, or at least the same, as we can sell them for. If it is a game you like though, that is not always the best way to look at it.

Ridge Racers don't seem to be available often, so if it is a game you really want, I don't think $300 is out of line. Just know that that beast will probably sit there taking up space for a while if you decide to get rid of it.

Edit: Yes, it does have a 33" monitor.

Pretty much how I do it. I typically "Buy low / Sell low".

I shoot for working good conditions, but with blemishes to diminish the collector interest so I can get games at a price I'm comfortable I would be able to find a 'casual buyer' at.

I remember playing that game several times when it first came out around 1993. It's a fun racer, but it only has a few track selections IIRC so it might get old pretty quick.

An upright with video problems came up at a local auction a while back and i jumped on it. Works great now and gets frequent play by everyone. The big trade off is there's no clutch and 6-speed shifter, just a Happ up/down shifter. It was apparently made in England and the track billboards were different, mostly "Brent Leisure" the major distributor over there instead of the Namco stuff seen in the USA version. It's a shame they decided not to make an upright here in the states.

Paul has already pointed out what's wrong with the sitdown deluxe.
It's a commitment. It can also be a showpiece.

Not sure about the first one but there is a US standup for Ridge Racer 2. I've got one. The cabinet above is nicer. The US one is really plain.
