Just bought a RR2 upright in great condition. A few small issues like the fans not working on the system22 cage, and the power supply. Already took care of that, and am happy with my purchase.

The small issue I'm running into is when I press the gas, it causes the brake value to rise. I can press the brake and it does not affect the gas at all. Only the gas affects the brake.

I'll be driving full throttle in the game, then all of the sudden I'll lose speed. I went into the test menus and found this was the problem.

I'd really appreciate any insight you guys might have. Bad ground? I/O board? I haven't a clue.

Thanks!

I tried re calibrating, didn't work. Instead of straight zeros in the calibration screen, it was a bunch of letters. It almost seemed like whatever I did in the calibration screen didn't matter. Whether I pushed the brake in or not, in the calibration. When I went out to the test menu, the brake and gas responded the same.

Any ideas why the brake values rise when I press the gas pedal?

Thanks for your suggestion, although all the wiring checked out. No bare spots, kinks, or signs it has ever been messed with.

I'm starting to wonder if bad pots would act this way? In the test menu when you press the gas, the values rise quickly. Then when you release, they drop back down to 0000 instantly.

The brake rises quickly, but when you release, the numbers very slowly drop back down to 0000, nowhere near instant.

Does that help anybody narrow down what the problem is?

check the voltage on pots. usually 3 wires: +, in and gnd. make sure you can measure around 5v in the pots. i found similar symptom and it caused by a broken gnd wire.

This has me really confused now!

Checked the wiring, whoever installed new pots didn't have the colors matching, from before to after the connector. So I thought maybe that'd be an issue. Turns out not, it just made the axis reversed. Pressing the pedal in would make the value drop instead of rise. So I put them back to the way they were. Although when I swapped the other wires coming from the pots, it changed the brake pedal to the gas. Gas pedal is now brake.

If I use the brake pedal as the gas, it works fine. It does not affect the brake. It's only if I use the gas pedal as the gas, does it make the brake engage???

Does this seem like the pots are just bad? Any bad pot I've had before completely stopped working. These function, but the values in the test menus never stay still. Instead of just sitting at 0000, they like to bounce around. That is the sign of a bad pot, correct?

it is a sign of the input connection is floating (not connected to anywhere). why don't you try to replace the pots?

Yeah, I'm going to order two new pots for gas/brake.

Thanks for your help. You seem to be the only one willing.

Game runs great with the brake pedal as gas. Just set 49.031 laptime. :)

Pots are on the way.

If anyone has any insight on this, maybe you've experienced the same problem. Please post what the cause was, if you figured it out.

I'll throw them pots in as soon as they come, and post if it worked. Thanks again!
