Ok.... say I want to add some base to my Whirlwind. The speakers in Whirlwind are kinda weak & I'd love to have some big ol' base thunder come from the machine once the weather mode starts. Is there an issue using the auxiliary 110v plug inside the machine (usually used for a soldering iron) & plug a 12v adapter into it & run that to a 12v car amp (say 100-200 watts). Then from that car amp put a Rockford Fosgate subwoofer into the cabinet to give it some power. Is that too much of a load for the machine? Does it really matter? Any help would be great.

You probably could but that seems like a lot of extra work. Just use a plug in self contained/amplified home theater subwoofer that accepts speaker level inputs and keep it under the pinball. Almost all of my pins have a subwoofer like this under them and it makes a big difference. Just run a speaker wire from the lower cabinet speaker to the sub and adjust the volume.

I know I could hook it up that way but I want to "feel" it in the machine. also, I'm interested to know if that draws to much power using the auxillery 110v plug. plus, it would look "normal".

That works but you need to use a 12v power supply, not just an adapter, make sure it is rated for the amperage you are planning to use. As far as audio it will not hurt the pin it is only an audio source, the amp will satisfy power requirements for the woofer or sub. I too like bass that shakes the machine. I have done exactly what you are proposing

I think it's "bass" you're looking for. (And not the fish, either!)

I would also go with the powered sub rec--you'll feel the bass right with the game. Easy solution, quick and can be undone with no hassle, and it makes the upper frequencies sound better too.
