Someone please explain this:

Rush the Rock...

Back door off... game plays great. I played it for 3+ hours straight without so much as a hiccup.

Put back door on... 5 minutes in and I get a BUS ERROR.

Take back door off... nothing else... play for an hour straight.

Put back door on... 3 minutes in and I get a BUS ERROR.

Tack back door off but sit it against the back...so only the top foot or so is "exposed"... plays fine for an hour or so...

Put back door on... 5 minutes later and I get a BUS ERROR.

HUH?

It shouldn't be heat related... I have a very powerful fan blowing in... and 3-5 minutes is no where near enough time to build up heat in there anyway... PLUS it was much hotter in my garage during the afternoon when it played fine with the door off than it was when I put the door on later that evening... I just can't see it being "heat" related.

not enough air flow and the game is overheating...maybe?

Is the door bumping any cables when you install it?

This is where I would look for just about anything, wires, picture tube, and anything the door could be touching or the weight of the door could be pulling on something. Look close at the bottom and top of the back door also.

I once had a ham radio that only liked to work upside down and that is the way I ran it.

Just saying it is an option...Leave the door off.

Work through the airflow in the cabinet. Is that powerful fan actually moving air around or just creating pressure? I'd also look at anything that moves, even slightly, when the door is closed.

-E- So the fan blows inward and is supposed to... but with the door closed, the air has to go somewhere. Are there any fans blowing outward? You may have a dying or missing fan, or clogged grate, elsewhere.

Great idea... until he has friends over with little kids, or he puts it on location...

This is my best guess as well thus far... SOMETHING has to be moving when the door is on... there isn't enough time to build up heat.

Frizz... 2 words for ya buddy... "Hair Dryer"

Use it to selectively apply heat to see where the failure is.

Does this game have a safety interlock on the back? Maybe the switch is bad while pushed in by the door or not pushed in all the way but pulled out it makes a good connection.

That makes sense too. Could be the interlock.

I had heat issues with mine with the door on and ended up adding 2 smaller fans on the FFB board and one on the CPU. No more heat issues.

What kinds of errors were you getting? Simple resets? BUS errors?
