Oh, the aged testosterone of it all...
Adulting lesson to be learned here- like the guy or not.

Make a bad (business?) decision with regard to your stuff...?
Even if you've been screwed (I have been numerous times) you could just man up and deal and/or take some personal responsibility.

Option 1:
Just outright sell SOME of your stuff and salvage your business. Rebuild from a functional position some time down the road.

Option 2:
Leverage your inventory for a loan to be able to pull the thing off and maybe keep all the stuff.

Option 3:
Pawn some portion of your stuff to other enthusiasts to raise the funds you need and hope you get your act together in time to buy the stuff back.

And on, and on, and on...
Or-

Option 4:
Avoid Options 1, 2, 3, et. al. until you are left with nothing else but hoping a whole bunch of other people will bail you out, with no responsibility assumed.

Don't get me wrong, I am happy when worthy people succeed, but if he is worthy of just giving money to, why doesn't somebody ACTUALLY help the guy in making a respsonsible choice and taking care of his own stuff/life here?
Just GIVING people $$ is worthless-
To everyone involved.

Merely ASKING for a handout without offering something of value is shameful and unproductive on a long term basis.

Just a little background. He was a volunteer at the museum of pinball. He was my go to guy when it came to putting back together after indisc event went away after indisc shoved all the video arcade machines to one side. Not only did he volunteer but he brought all of his kids to help and yea they really did help with game placement and rehooking up all 300 to 400 video arcade machines.

So trying to scare kaboom with more kids. Laughs, I guess you just don't know kaboom.. laughs.
That is cool, and was not doing personal slams, nor wasn't tryin to scare anyone. Was purely for comic relief. Much like your 2 laughs in that post. I probably shouldn't mention this, but I just got home, with a fresh bottle of whisky. At this rate, I might as well throw the cap away... does not look like it will be needed tonight!

Here is what I would do: fly to Banning, rent a truck, get a storage unit(s), move games into storage units. Stay in Banning for a few days. Sell the games you really don't need in CA. Rent a one only moving truck and drive the first load of games back. Within the next few months, make a few trips to CA and pick up the remaining games.

How much is a mint DK there? Im in Texas and that sounds like a fair price, or a little high maybe.
@OdinM I've been seeing total junk DK sell for $800 - $900. Replacing parts alone would put it well above $1350 and that doesn't include what was needed for the work on the cabinet.

😯 I bought all my games in summer/fall of 2020, and I think I overpaid for almost everything (29 games total). But with these inflated prices I could probably make money selling mine. That's crazy.

Sounds good, sounds logical, sounds easy on paper. But let's take a moment to dissect this plan.

Given the information known. They are his games - not a few, but lots. The original intent was a business one. The intent is still a business one.
Most banking institutions are more than willing to loan you money, when you really don't need it. Meaning, you have a fair amount of assets, and things they deem valuable ( Property ) The hospitality and entertainment industry got hit super hard the past 2 years. The cash flow is probably not at the level the bank wants to secure a loan. (If the loan went to default they would just liquidate them at dump scrap prices, and chase him for years for the balance )

You already own the equipment to get a business up and going. Selling the assists off, is like a restaurant owner selling their deep fryers to pay for the floor tiles. Plus as all you game buying people know, it is EXTREMELY rare you ever buy back a game in the same or comparable condition as you sold it, let alone at the same price point, and in the time frame needed. So, to sell a cabinet actually weakens the long term business plan. If you were planning to open a business, would you honestly sell off your inventory just for building renovations? Would a car mechanic sell off his tools (which would easy be $25 000 ) just to have to buy them over again at a higher rate?

I am not saying what is happening is right or wrong. Not for me to decide, I don't pay his bills, and have no intention to buy him out. But other than it is under the gofundme umbrella, what makes this any different than say a kickstarter, or any other crowd sourcing avenue? People may say "just throwing money away with nothing in return" Well, there is the documentary, to be included in the story has some personal value for some. There will be a master list of anyone who donated. (Remember these are online transactions - everything is recorded ) So the beneficiary could go back and offer free 1 year passes to any and all who helped a long the way. (Wayyy cheaper than any bank loan )

I do see all sides of this, but the biggest thing is, It is easy for people to sit back and judge. Say what they would do if it was their game(s). Its easy when you only have 15 games or less, and you do not treat them as revenue generating machines. Tie up your life, your house, all you ever known into the venture, then get back to me with some honest soul searching answers. Slip those shoes on, take a little walk... let me know how it feels.

I don't know the guy, my only knowledge of him is from one of the arcade documentaries I saw. Richie closed his arcade in that documentary and it was sad. He came across as a genuine and likable guy in that movie. I hope he gets all of his games home safely. It's good for the hobby and the community if the games stay with someone who has a passion for preserving the games and letting the public experience them.

Since this thread is a complete shitshow, and at least two sets of people have threatened to beat each other up or get beat up or have Richie beat them up, it reminded me of this gem from Pinside a few years back.

If you're not into pinballs you probably missed it, but there was a guy who started taking preorders on a Predator pinball machine. This asshole got like 200 grand, AT LEAST out of people as preorder money and got to the point where he was begging people for the next installment, etc. Eventually they found out he never even had the license to make the machine, and had made a prototype and a few of the parts but wasn't anywhere near making the machine. He pocketed all the money.

I'll interrupt here to say i'm not talking about Richie, i've never heard of Richie taking anybody for money, i'm just saying the fighting reminded me of it.

Well anyways, lawsuits are flying, lawyers are involved, lots of tough guys are saying they're going to kick the Predator guy's ass when they see him, etc, they're going to show up at his door and demand their money... this guy had taken HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS from HUNDREDS of people.

Eventually, some guy posts a photo that he took of the guy, at an auction, walking away from him. After all that talk, this guy, who wasn't even a big dude or anything, went to an auction and was walking around all day ,bidding on shit, talking to his friends, loading games, etc. and the only thing anybody did was take a picture of his back, LOL!

To Richie's credit, he isn't claiming that anyone will get anything but good will.
That part is admirable at least.

That Predator pin guy would have been feral pig food in my neighborhood for pulling shit like that.

15k is the shipping cost of all his games to be shipping from Banning to NJ. He said he has 100 games to ship right ? Thats actually a good price. Or he will use the 15k to rent 2 18 wheelers and go pick them up himself ? Again, not a bad price considering. I tried to rent 1 small box truck to go 400 miles and back, and it was going to be about $600 total (this is with mileage charges and gas calculated approx). Including me wasting about 14hrs of my life driving. So I decided to just get them shipped from Beltmann for $694. To me, thats a better deal while I kick back and drink a few root beer floats.

BTW - At least 8 of those DK's are Arcade 1ups. Why save those ? lol I thought this guy was above Arcade 1ups ? Those are used for the circle jerk off, I mean Kong Off ? I now have less respect for the Kong off. Hopefully I am just wrong and jumping to the wrong conclusions.

I follow a couple guys on Youtube that are fixing up old planes. One has had $179000 donated, and another has had $17000 donated. I am restoring all kinds of stuff. I am looking at getting a old Beech 18 airplane to restore. I need that fat gofundme money. I am going to start a gofundme for the plane rescue. Who's in? Send me some cash.
