Ribbit Racin' -- problems with sound, motors, and more

we picked up a Ribbit Racin' at auction back in December, mainly cause it was had for a decent price, despite the fact that we already had one. this was in nicer physical condition, but I learned when I got the damn thing back to the business that looks are very deceiving.

for one, I realized that the volume pot was completely disconnected. upon hooking it up, based on how the other old Ribbit machine was hooked up, I still had no sound. the sound pots on the sound board were dialed up to correct levels. I had amplifier hiss out of the speakers... as well as some weird feedback sounds like hums and hisses and bleeps, creeps and the sweeps.

I'm inclined to believe the sound board has issues. so I will swap boards.

the other fun issue, is that the 2 player frog motor won't move. I tried switching motors (a donor from the old machine) and flipping to the known good motor, no dice. I have continuity from the J5 connector on the main board up to the motor wires, so it's not a connection issue, I'm guessing something's just dead on the board. so I will be swapping the main board as well.

BUT FIRST, I will try a switching power supply (it was an update I did on the machine as per what Cadillac Jack instructed me to do) to see if it's got anything to do with that, but I tested all the voltages and they're all good except the +5. there's an adjustment pot on the old power supply board, does this adjust the +5 voltage by chance?

I don't expect any responses, but this seems to be a popular game in redemption arcades, so I was hoping at least one of you encountered it and have something to share. :)

thanks.

well, shit.

main board swap got it. :p

call it a case closed, folks. that resolved the sound and motor issue. I even figured out how to wire up the volume pot.

Glad you got the problem figured out. A little suggestion from a fellow redemption game user, NEVER BUY A LASERTRON GAME! No matter how good of deal, well unless its working when you get it and you can make quick money on it, but keep in mind that you will get next to no tech help from Cadillac Jack. So when it breaks pretty much pich it.

Hello all- I know this was a post from a long time ago, but I have a ribbon racing and everything was working fine up until now the frogs all of a sudden will not move at all. Suggestions?

Check soldering on all caps located on power supply board. Notorious for
cold/cracked solder joints.

Ah yes. Ribbit Racin'.....featuring "huffing" harry and jumping jack. First, do what @pcjohn says then read my suggestions. It is odd that both would stop moving together which does indicate a broken connection like pcjohn suggested. However, read on after the reflow!

I'll might need a little more info, does the game start after you coin it up? Like, does the actual race begin? If it does, check if your buttons are responding. Ive had a lot of issues with the switch array for the buttons. Lots of bad solder joints from being slammed so many times. Also make sure the drive belts in the back of the game that move the frogs are still attached and not broken. Let's go from there :)

Thank you @pcjohn and @in99flames . yes the game does count up and play, but unfortunately, the frogs don't move and it happened all of a sudden. I will check everything that you are suggesting and get back to you all. The one thing I did notice when I was initially installing the game a couple of months ago into the arcade, was that I could not change the number of tokens that it took no matter how many times I switched the dip switches around. It only ever took one or two tokens. I could not get it to take four no matter what I did. So I am wondering if overall the motherboard was just going or something.

Do you have a manual for the game? If not I can scan it. It has schematics i think, or at least the wiring diagram.
