I have wanted this machine bad enough that a bought the owners manual year and half ago.

couple of questions.......the previous owner always left the cover of the computer (said it would stay cooler that way) the owners manual says to always leave the cover on as the foam holds the boards in place during vibrations of game play. what to do?

second......the martian on the left jumps like he's possesed and the one on the right only bounces a couple times and kinda quits, or just vibrates a little. any ideas what to look for or try? thought about switching the coils between the two and see what happens.

my grandson and son and son in law will be here this weekend to play..should be great fun.

I would leave the cover on as long as all of your fans are working, First thing I would do is replace the fans.

I would definately check the coil on the martian.

I concur with SilverUnicorn (for a change, LOL).

Here's the deal... Apparently the fans Williams (and the power supply manufacturer) used inside the computer are garbage. Recommendation is to replace them with a quality manufacturer's fan... If I remember correctly, there are 2 80mm fans (standard PC case fans), and one that was a bit odd for the processor. Edit: There is one 80mm X 25mm standard PC case fan in the power supply, and one 50mm X 10mm CPU fan on the processor.

Action Pinball has a good article about replacing the fans on Pin 2K machines... http://www.actionpinball.com/tech/pb2kfans.htm

Once they are all replaced, a collector shouldn't have any additional problems (as the game presumably get so few hours where it's on).

For the alien, I agree with tomdotcom, if it moves at all the coil is fine. The assembly probably just needs a cleaning. Take it apart, clean the parts (NEVER LUBE), and put it back together.
