OK,

First... There are two versions of the game: Proto5 and 1.0. They have separate sound board software and they are NOT compatible... and to make matters worse, the Version 2 which works with the production 1.0 version of the game isn't available on download sites.

Release 1 - CRC D2ED9F5E
Release 2 - CRC 4ED9E803

If you have Release 2 of the sound board, please dump the U2 ROM and submit it!!!

Running Release 1 on a Version 1.0 game results in clicking sounds and sound samples repeating from the start. They never finish playing because the logic board is sending the sound board resets repeatedly and just before the reset is sent, the game pauses ever so briefly. The fix? Downgrade the 4 Program ROMs to Proto5.

-----------

Next, the bane of RevX boards everywere are leaking SMT caps. If you have a board, recap it. Hopefully you get it before the caps p*ss all over the board and corrode traces. I have one here that I cleaned, recapped, and patched several traces on but was still unstable. The cause was found tonight and was a difficult one to find: the electrolyte ate the contacts off one end of an SMT resistor. This interrupted the Address Latch (ALTCH signal) which is used to separate out the Data Bus signals from the combined Address Bus signals. It was barely making contact so the game would work, but would crash randomly and would fail random Video RAM and ROM tests.

Wasn't easy to track down, but damn it was satisfying to see it running properly again!

good, I can send you my big box of Revolution X junk to perform science experiments and further demonstrate that RAYMAN is the best there is.

(I'm kidding, I wish I knew the solution for the sound boards that just don't work anymore)

Replace the 3 bad 74HC541 chips...

Just did another Rev X board. The SMD had just started to leak, but the radials on the sound board were already eating the traces

Just wanted to add about the recapping, in my board I've replaced them all with smd tantalum caps, more specifically "10uf 20V 20% B CASE 3528 T491B106M020AS KEMET" but of course there are many possible ones, I would recommend that size, it fits nicely on the pads of the PCB, very straightforward to solder. So far it has been working great!

What's up everyone!!! Just seeing this for the first time (as far as comparability) I've owned 10 rev x's over the past 3 years and currently have 3(including a 3 player)
Have the World record and just upped the score again (most points in one credit)
Have promotional gear given out only month of release (thanks George petro lol)
Held the jacket that Kerri Hoskins (Helga) wears in the game.
Love this weird ass obscure game lol

I'm gonna check all my boards I've got tonight to see if I have the specific one to be able to dump.
Hope everyone's having an awesome Thursday!!

Hi Everyone! Someone reached out to do a repair on one of these systems, still triaging things and haven't seen the cabinet yet. I haven't worked on one before, just wondering if someone has a PCB that's been recapped that they'd be interested in parting with? Not sure if they're easy to come by or not.

From the initial description I'm thinking it's either a fuse or the PCB but always like to have a path lined up before I head out...

thank you!

Damn, I'm late to the revolution x party lol

Happily decline I have multiple board sessions at home plus multiple cabinets, check them out and see what I've got in regards to the soundboard.
