For anyone that doesn't know yet, Disney Quest is an interactive Disney theme park located in the Downtown Disney section of the Disney megaplex in Orlando, FL. I had heard some mixed reviews about the place, but decided to check it out anyway. I am glad I did!

The place was amazing ... video games EVERYWHERE ... what could be better?

Just to be clear ... Disney Quest isn't about video games, per se ... but they have video games sprinkled over just about every square inch of the 5 story building. The easiest way for me to explain this is to separate this review into two parts - attractions versus games.

First, the attractions ...

To be honest, the attractions are NOT all that great. Most of them are downright lame (Ride the Comix sucked, Aladdin's Magic Carpet Ride was designed for 2nd graders, and the River Cruise was completely stupid). But a few of them were great (Design your own roller coaster was fun once you got the hang of designing scarier roller coasters, Buzz Lightyear was basically bumper cars with the added element of firing rubber balls at one another, and the Pirates of the Caribbean interactive cannon wars was the highlight of the entire day).

My brother and I were there from open to close and never had to wait more than 90 seconds for any of the rides. Part of that was due to it being a Tuesday, I am sure ...

Next, the games ...

The games were simply everywhere, from the newest of the new driving games to the old school games that we all love so much. It isn't every day that you can play a game of Lunar Lander and Jambo Safari in the same half hour span.

I had heard prior complaints about some of the old school games being beat up (and there is some truth to that) but every machine was up and running and most of them were in pretty good condition. Sure, there were a few loose joysticks here and there and a couple of monitors badly in need of cap kits, but overall the condition of the games was pretty good. One or two of the pins had weak flippers (POTC comes to mind), but most of the pins (aside from being dirty) were in great shape.

Here are a few games I enjoyed that I had never played before:

CSI Pin
Spiderman Pin
UltraPin (I really enjoyed the Ultra Pin ... thought it was unique and cool)
The new Hydro Thunder (H2 Overdrive)
Sea Wolf (the new one, not the old Midway version)
Carnival King
Percussion Masters (or something like that)
Trog (very fun)

Here are a few games that I never played as a kid, but that I thought were simply terrible:

Lunar Lander (too hard)
Elevator Action (boring)

And here are a couple that I played again for the first time in a long time and really enjoyed:

Jungle Hunt
Q Bert
Discs of Tron
Moon Patrol
Spy Hunter

I think it would have been cool if they had sprinkled in a few EM games and perhaps some older pins, but the maintenance on items like that would probably be a showstopper.

Official review: For 40 bucks, it isn't a bad way to spend a day in Orlando. I was there from 11:30 AM until 10:00 PM and was never bored.

And, of course, I took a bunch of photos. You can check out my photobucket pages here:

I feel ashamed. I lived in Orlando for 7 years, and never went. Now that I've caught the arcade bug, and I'm looking for arcades nearby, there are none to be found. None. Thanks for the review, next time I'm in the area I'll try and find time to go.

we really enjoyed Disney Quest when we were down there in 2001. admission was included in our park-hopper passes so we weren't spending extra money to get in, and it made for a great evening stop a couple of times after having dinnner in Downtown Disney (and after most of the small children were off to bed.)

i've heard rumors that it's no longer included in the passes though, which would make it a little harder to swallow price-wise unless i was completely bored with the rest of the DW parks and had nothing better to do.

Thanks for the pics , lots of good games . Theres no arcade like that at Disney Land , where I usually go .

DQ is really cool. I wanna go one last time before they turn it into the ESPN nightclub. ;)

Try jump kicking and try the 8th building.

Heh, I figured you'd reply to that comment about EA being boring :) I like the game too, although I can only get to the 3rd or 4th building.

Paying a high admission price just to play video games sorta reminds me of going to Cedar Point...spent 30 bucks to get in (in 1996) and spent most of the time in the classic arcade while my friends all rode the roller coasters (which I hate)
