The monitor just went out today, and I am curious as to whether or not you can just plug a computer monitor into the pinball PCB. Seeing how it is a computer with what appears to be a VGA out. I have a 19" LCD flat screen I want to cram in, but want to make sure I wont screw anything up first. Anybody?

I do not think the LCD will give you the image you want...

Not bright enough.

You can put any 19" monitor in there, but you will need to transfer into it into the original frame.

You will need the LCD to run at 15hz... as thats the output the game.

Pin2000 uses a standard res (cga) monitor. If your LCD is a standard PC monitor it won't sync down to CGA.

You've got a few choices these days, first would be to get the original repaired. Next, you can swap it out with virtually any standard res tube type arcade monitor. Changing monitors usually requires swapping the monitor frame over to the new monitor as Pin2K used a very compact and oddly shaped monitor frame. You'll also probably have to mod the video cable for the connector on the new monitor. Lastly, there are now multiple options for open frame cga (multi-mode actually) lcd monitors. Virtually all of the big distrib's carry them now, they can also be found on ebay. You'll pay a premium though, they aren't cheap. With this option you will also have to fabricate your own mounting, no big deal really.

Hmm, so Im screwed for an easy fix. How hard would it be to put a PCI VGA card in? Is the software fairly easy to access and add the software for the card? Probobally dreaming. LOL

awhile back at 8liners or one of these online joints i remember seeing a board that took a vga cable, then broke it down to a "standard cga" set of molex pins..

it didnt convert the signal or anything, but it wa s anice clean adapter.

In your case it sounds like it would work well if you put some other monitor in there..

i will keep hunting..... gotts be around there somewhere..

Imposible....The PIN 2000 operating system uses XINA... and was designed for only 3 motherboards with the Cyrix MediaGX and a special chipset on those boards...

GREAT info here: http://www.pinball2000.de/

pin 2000

Ah well. Thanks to all. I would have had that pin all jacked up by now. LOL I guess I'll just go through the chassis and fix it.

I fixed one in a Pin2k - Star Wars Episode 1. Didn't have much of a problem...

OK now, I have found a badly burned resistor at R 812 (1/2 watt 68 ohm) on the power section of the board. Anybody ever had a repair that simple, (replace the resistor) or is it like I think. (theres more fried stuff hidden in there somewhere)

it's possible that there was a line surge that got past the fuse, and that part was the weakest part of the circuit and blew up. I've seen a single part burn up and the monitor work again just by replacing that part.

It's also possible that you have a shorted transistor, diode, or flyback, and that caused the resistor to burn up.

Resistors are cheap. Replace it and watch it to see if it smokes again...

Yup it smoked a new one after a few seconds, but the monitor was working while it smoked it. It was a 1/2 watt 68 ohm 2% resistor. I am going to try to follow the trace to what is next in line. Learning as I go as usual. LOL
