Revenge From Mars "this thing needs alot of work" thread.

I got a couple more things installed. Spent my Sunday at a pinball swap meet and repair party so I got nothing done. Today I built my led sequencer for my saucer leds. It works great and makes the saucers look like they're hovering. I got the idea from a Pinball News link. - Barry

Progress has been slow but steady. I pulled the poppers and cleaned them out as well as the ball trough. Today I installed several of the metal ball guides. Now it's starting to look more like a machine instead of just a playfield. - Barry

What types of IC's are those? Maybe the little one is a 555 timer?

edit: the link above shows it is a 555 timer with a ten output sequencer. What did the components cost?

Not much. I bought the 555 and the board from Radio Shack, 4017 from Fry's, The led's and the 2n3904's off ebay, I had the sockets, resistors, pot, headers and wire on hand. All and all I'd say less than $20.00. I think I'm going to trigger them on when the ramp is up.

I got as far as I can until more parts show up. A local pinball guy has the proper rivets and tools so I can replace the skip ramp, target heads and fix the diverter arm. Once the parts are in and I get his help, it shouldn't take too long to finish with the playfield. - Barry

I was fortunate enough to have on of the local pin guys willing to rivet 6 targets, a plastic, the skip ramp and diverter arm for me this last week. I got all 11 standup targets replaced, every bulb replaced, all the inserts cleaned from the bottom, the drop target replaced and switch fixed, the diverter assy reinstalled and the skip ramp installed. Still have quite a bit left but it's going well. - Barry

1.new left targets
2.new right targets
3.new center targets
4.skip ramp

After playing it some, I have found a few more problems to address.

There was a hacked in connector on the main lamp board so I replaced the connector to fix it.

After finding the intermittent flipper I lifted the playfield to find a cobbled up mess on both flippers. I somehow completely overlooked them. The left flipper eos switch is falling apart and dangling which may be part if not all my flipper problem. I'll order a flipper rebuild kit which I should have done in the first place.

The Stroke of Luck ball popper has a dent in the top which doesn't let the ball pop out alot of the time. I'll order a new popper bracket.

The skip ramp bracket is worn almost through where it hit the guide rail. I'll order a new one.

Overall very happy with it. It's a blast to play and once I address these issues it should be heading in the house. - Barry

Today I got a few more things done.

I ordered a new popper bracket and the parts to rebuild the flippers.

I had a guy at work fill in weld the grooves in my skip ramp bracket. I ground it down and it fixed it right up. I also repaired the armature that holds it to the coil so now it won't stick.

I installed my saucers with the led's and wired them up. I made a bracket and installed a switch so they come on when the skip ramp is up.

getting very close..... - Barry

Parts came today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I installed a new stroke of luck scoop/bracket. I rebuilt the flippers with new coils, linkage, eos switches and springs. Got it all together and I'm happy to say it's working.

It looks like phase 1 is complete. Phase 2 will be next year sometime, I'm going to get new cabinet decals and powder coat the coin door, legs and metal trim as well as replace the t molding.

Here a few more pics.

1.new scoop vs old scoop
2.saucer board installed
3.switch to activate saucers
4.flipper assy before
5.flipper assy after
