Looks like you're missing a bolt through that micro switch. One of mine was missing that same bolt and the whole switch had been spun around and was no longer being activated by the target. I actually had to order the bolt because I couldn't find that size anywhere. I think it's a 2-56 x 5/8th"

Thanks for the pics. Now I know where the wire go (broken off) and what the actuator looks like (switch is there actuator is gone). - Barry

Yep, its minus one but still working.

I (now) have a couple spares along with the switch plate / bar in my parts box. I had to "borrow" one to finish another project. Shipping costs more than the parts and no matter how hard you try to get all the parts in one order you always miss something. Its always the small stuff too.

I've been working on hand polishing the playfield with novus 2. It looks better than before, but it seems it should get better. I decided to order the Treasure Cove playfield polishing kit with the 4" and 2" setup. After seeing the results on the Batman on their site, the RFM should look a whole lot better. Has anyone used this before?????

While I wait I'll work on other cleaning - ramps etc. Anyone have any good tips for cleaning the larger metal pieces like these...... - Barry

If you remove some more stuff, you will be able to really get a bit more elbow grease and it makes it ALOT easier to clean...but of course that's alot more work too...

Those pics are just metal piece references. Almost all of the playfield is stripped, just some posts left. - Barry

While waiting for my Treasure Cove polishing kit to come in I decided to start cleaning of other parts. I also got my cga-vga adapter and built my sync combiner so I can install an lcd monitor. I got +5 and gnd from the pc power supply and built a harness with adapters so nothing was cut and can go back to original no problem. - Barry

1- aliens before and after
2- aliens after some simple green and a toothbrush
3- harness adapter
4- sync combiner
5- cga-vga setup.

Did some testing today on the lcd monitor replacement setup and it works great!!!!! I got the cga-vga adapter from Nixs, built the small sync adapter from an article I found on the nucore forums. I was able to get the chip I needed from a local SMAC member Paul S. I'm happy that progress is being made. - Barry

A little more progress. I made a bracket to hold the light since it originally mounts to the monitor frame. Just have to mount the monitor and the head is done and just the playfield to finish for now....... -Barry

I built a monitor mount out of part of the existing crt frame and some angle aluminum. I riveted together the frame and it bolts into the existing mounting holes for the original monitor. I also put molex pins on the lcd power cord to not modify any of the RFM wiring.

I'm going to save the monitor frame in case I need to put a different CRT in it, The tube will be recycled and I'll end up selling the chassis. - Barry

I got my polish kit from Treasure Cove in the mail yesterday and decided to play with it today. I didn't have much time today but I hit it with the compound 3 then 2 a couple times and in about 15 minutes it looks 100x better than it did. It's really starting to shine. I hope to finish all the polishing tomorrow and get a couple good coats of wax on it soon so I can start reassembly. Pics soon. - Barry

looking good
are you keeping track of your hours ? if so, i'd be interested to know how many

i find it amazing how much time just one little project takes

Thanks, I'm happy with the progress. I haven't tracked hours, I probably should have, but then again I may not want to know. Here's some guesses so far.

Cleaning out the cabinet and driver board 1.5
Replacing the monitor with an LCD and associated stuff - 3
Stripping playfield for cleaning - 3
Cleaning and polishing so far - 2
Cleaning parts so far - 2.5
Polishing ramps - 1
Researching all the parts I need and finding them - 4

It looks like I'm 16 or so hours in it with quite a way to go. I'm somewhat taking my time and working on it little here, little there. My daughter wants to play so hopefully a couple weeks or less depending on the time I get. - Barry

I'm a huge fan of this platform too; your shop-out is looking great, can't wait to see it all done!

IIRC there are settings for location types that adjust the humor to be a little less risque'. If you've got little ones playing, you can decide which one you prefer. Tell them about the cows hidden in the game, the one on the rings of Saturn is fun to spot. I think it's visible for just a moment before multi-ball starts.

I got the polishing done this morning. While the playfield will never be perfect thanks to the neglect of previous owners, it looks great. When I got it I hoped I could get it decent and it's far better than I thought it would turn out. It really had no shine and a ridiculous amount of dirt on it. Now it is clean and shines. Most of the ball marks are gone and now I have a few coats of wax to put on before I start reassembly.

I must say that the Treasure Cove polishing kit worked great and would buy it again. It was a little over $100 shipped, but the results were night and day better than I was getting with Novus 2 and elbow grease. I think it took about 30-45 minutes to do all the polishing.

It's hard to get good pics but here's a few.

1. Dirty playfield
2. Here you can see how dirty and dull it was
3. Overview of the shine
4. Shiny happy playfield
5. Full playfield awaiting wax and reassembly.
