I've nearly completed my JEDI training.. uh i mean restoration

I want to say thanks to:
Bill Karkula (mrbill08) for fixing my ROTJ boards, he's super fast and really knows his stuff.
Rich at (TOG) for the instruction decal.
And Francis (nash) for providing NOS artwork (marquee, controller, bezel). As well as Scott (atariscott) for NOS CP decals.

Started with a decent machine with a really, REALLY bad cabinet. It looked good from a distance, but from a few feet away you could see it was painted, with what looks like spray paint and a roller. Some water damage was present as well. It also had a pretty nasty plastic control panel, scratched bezel, torn and water damaged paper bezel, damaged CP and controller decals, scratched and dented metal and faded marquee.

Cabinet and Hardware:
Built brand new black melamine cabinet (modified top back doors into a single door for easier monitor access)

Stripped and powder coated CP, bolts, brackets, speaker mesh
Powder coated yoke with (bk-1) texture
New coin door with custom logo inserts and LEDs

Powder coated blue metal on sides of monitor (went with a more primary blue to match the artwork)

Rebuilt YOKE with new gears and parts

New T-molding
New Locks
New Vinyl Casters

Cosmetics:
NOS marquee
NOS control panel decals (hand cut - these are prototypes that were not die cut)
NOS yoke decal
NOS paper bezel
New repro instruction decal - on bezel
New tempered glass
Cleaned up control panel plastic then waxed
Have top side art, looking for bottom side art (not installed yet)

Electronics:
Cleanup/restored inside guts: power supply, wire harness, PCB, etc.
New Speakers
New Marquee Light Fixture/Bulb
New Power Cord
Monitor: original burn-free DISCO monitor

some pix during the process:

NOS uncut proto control panel decals (very nerve racking to cut these out)
ROTJNOSCPsides.jpg

NOS yoke decals (did NOT want to stick) TIP: heat the metal then clamp the crap out of it

Clamp!

Powder coated yoke parts (didn't like the gloss so redid another pair of handles textured - has a much better feel)

Nice job as usual. Too bad ROJ is not a fun game overall compared to Star Wars or ESB. It should look spectacular beside your other rebuilds. I agree with the new cabinets on extreme rebuilds if done right. Nothing is nicer than a spotless cab with perfect art. Finding an original that is perfect is almost impossible as games were routed and abused as they were designed for. Ill take a new cab when ever the option is there on a restore unless I can make original cab look like new.

It is easy though, you just need to go for it and never look back. Oh and take boat loads of pix so you remember how it all goes back together.

It's not fair how easy you make this all look, man. It just ain't right. :D

Ain't that the truth! Great job! I like the blue sides. I spent a fair amount of time trying to color match the paint and it was near impossible. Even using those computer matchers didn't work. Rich was supposed to be getting the films from Scott to do the side art. Now the are at least 2 fully restored ROTJs sitting around half naked ;)

Very nice. I wish I had the kind of time and space you have!

I'm sure I'm not alone in saying I enjoy the pics you take, the closeups, etc.. It only shows the attention to detail you have.

Who cut and built the cabinet? Brett?

WOW! Now thats a fantastic restoration!! Beautiful job on it!
Thanks for sharing the pictures, loved seeing all the work you put into it.

Thanks Joey, the cabinets are built locally.
