Return of the "96 in 1" Multi Pac with sub-$100 pricing

Will this have Super Pac-man? I have been looking for a Multi kit with that game.

Will this have Super Pac-man? I have been looking for a Multi kit with that game.

It has a version running at reduced scale, which is 80% the size of the original. It plays and looks like the original, just smaller.

The reason for the reduced scale is to compensate for the graphics limitations of Midway Pac-Man hardware, consider it a bonus game :)

There were other reasons for the reduction in the "96 in 1" beyond economies of scale. I will point out that the Multi Q*bert is still the same price it was in 2006 when it was only a "6 in 1" and that even though the memory size doubled when it went to an "8 in 1" which is really a 9 in 1 because "hacked" Q*bert is included, the price never changed :)

Great deal none the less. Already pre-ordered mine. Keep up the great work. I'm sure the whole community thanks you for the hard work you put in to keep this hobby alive.

Midway Pacman hardware has sprite limitations, and chokes on anything beyond 6 moving objects on screen so the side scrolling maze on Jr. is impossible on that hardware.

To make things work beyond the 6 sprite limit, like Alien Armada, code tricks and blanking were used, the same thing for Mr & Mrs Pacman on v2.54. Still, those tricks aren't enough for Jr. Pacman's scrolling maze.

What about using a Jr Pac conversion PCB that plugs into the normal Pac/Ms. Pac harness? Could this kit be installed on one? And if so, shouldn't it be able to handle Jr Pac?

Yeah, I know the demand probably wouldn't justify the change of software for one game...

There are a couple of issues without getting too deep in the Jr. Pacman hardware- it's different.

The other bigger issue is commercial viability; there are simply more Pac and Ms Pac's out there to benefit from a kit compared to one dedicated only to Jr. Pac. I don't think a full on multi kit specifically for Jr. Pac would ever meet the fabrication minimum at a price collectors would pay.

I just wondered whether the kit could be installed on a Jr Pac conversion board (which is different than a regular Jr Pac board). If so, then the change should be strictly software.

But I figured the demand would be low. But had to ask. Have to do something with the Jr pac boards...

BTW - is this a "limited time offer"? I want to pick one up, but need to wait until I generate some "monitor repair" funds...

Excellent. I've been thinking of upgrading our Claw Cowgill multiPac board... payment sent. :beerchug:

If you decide to sell the cowgill let me know, I bought the Shilmover multi pac and the MsPacs dont play right. Pretty frustrating. I'd be glad to have my cowgil back...

Did you ever make any code changes to make freeplay easier to set? I always struggle setting it on the games that only use dip switch settings. I wish there were a global freeplay option.

Free play is global for several of the Pac series games and set via the joystick in the settings menus, but the extra titles at the end stand alone and never had a free play dip enable or otherwise. I'll revisit it as we're working on this new version, but from memory it wasn't an easy fix for those that never had a dip enabled setting.

The nvRAM will store credits for those titles, even when powered off.

Lastly, several of the games were added as the kit evolved via collector input which is why versions are included that didn't have dip enabled free play, but were great games nonetheless. If possible, free play will be added, but storing credits via nvRAM will always remain an option.

Anyone have a link to some video showing the 96 in 1 Multi Pac in action and what the menu system looks like and how it works. :)

I'll make one in the next day or two and post it to YouTube with a link on this thread.

Please include footage of mr. and mrs. pacman!

Also, it converting the UR version to the cocktail version a simple rom swap?

Thanks!
Gary

The hardware is the same and both versions of the code support uprights and cocktails; the difference is Mr & Mrs Pacman can only be played on a cocktail (v2.54) so we recommend that one for cocktails.

v2.54B (that "B" defines the sub-version) has Piranha swapped for Mr & Mrs Pacman, and still works on either cocktails or uprights, but gives you one more game if you have an upright since you can't play Mr & Mrs with one control panel.

Good to know! I bought one with 2.54B that I may want to convert to 2.54 after I see what mr. And mrs. pacman looks like! May end up having to order another kit and a cocktail. :)

Yes, please do!

Your blog link will not work for me with out upgrading IE and then it says my windows is not at 7. Can't upgrade stuff at work here on my own.

Can you possibly list the 96 games somewhere too?
