Retro Arcade Museum Opening in Nashville, TN Saturday Oct 29, 2011

Just a little information about our little Retro Museum FINALLY opening...this is in addition to the 120 game arcade that already is open in the mall; this is a once a month museum $10 free play free-for all!

Game Galaxy opens Retro Arcade Museum at Hickory Hollow Mall!

Game Galaxy Arcade has decided to open up its retro arcade museum in space #2075 at Hickory Hollow Mall one Saturday of each month in 2011. The grand opening of the museum will be Saturday, Oct 29. Hours of operation will be from 10am to 9pm. Future dates will be Saturday, November 26, and Saturday December 17. If there is enough interest, the Retro Arcade Museum will be open the last Saturday of each month in 2012 but only if we get your support! With a $10 admission fee the 50+ retro arcade and pinball machines are for everyone's enjoyment all on Free Play! The $10 cover charge also allows you entry into the many fighting game console tournaments that will be going on simultaneously in games such as Blazblue Continuum Shift, Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition, the Super Smash Bros series, and many, many more!

It is important that new generations recognize the history of coin-operated entertainment and with this special event each month, you will have the opportunity to play various arcade rarities such as Zwackery, I, Robot, and Journey, alongside tried and true classics such as Ms. Pac-Man, Galaga, and Donkey Kong. For a full list of games (some which are not on location ANYWHERE in the world), please visit the official Game Galaxy website at: www.gamegalaxyarcade.com or contact the store at 615-731-1500.

khanley: Yes, I just got sick of having them sit there doing nothing so we're finally going to have things like:

MCR/Bally Row:

Zwackery
Tron
Discs of Tron
Satan's Hollow
Spy Hunter
Timber
Tapper
Journey

Taito Row
Jungle Hunt
Tin Star
Zoo Keeper
Elevator Action (possibly later)

Just seemed like waste having stuff sitting there so hopefully people will enjoy these.

Incredible!

I just wanted to drop a note in that I have been to the location and I got a backstage tour.
This is going to be incredible. The collection is huge and the games are extremely well chosen. I was blown away by the number of truly classic games I was seeing. This will be THE place to play classic vids in the south!

I just moved to the Dayton area a few months ago due to a job relocation and have been sorely pressed to find anything around here with any amount of classic games. I moved here from phoenix which had Castles and Coasters, before that Oregon, where I could hit Ground Kontrol when I was in Portland.

May be time to convince the girlfriend a road trip might be in order if this becomes a regular thing, although the only games she plays are Tetris and Rock Band.

she caught me looking up the distance to Nashville and her comment was "nashville is touristy" but I don't think she said that in a bad way. there is hope yet. If I mention arcade she may roll her eyes though. Need to tread gently.

Well, you would have about 180 or so games to choose from in both locations if you come on the day the museum opens ; )

I'll be there.

You gonna be putting those Bally/Midway CED NFL Footbal cabs out to play?

We only have one NFL Football full cab, the other one is World Series Baseball, but yeah, they'll both be there..NFL Football runs but the video is kind of shaky at times but the game works...

I took a few bad cell phone pics. Brokentoken took a ton of pics and some video and will be posting to his blog at www.brokentoken.com soon. From what I remember here is what was there:
Zoo Keeper
Tin Star
Jungle Hunt
Time Pilot
Dig Dug
Robotron 2084
Crossbow
Chiller
Thayer's Quest
Haunted Castle
Star Wars
Return of the Jedi
I Robot
Interstellar
NFL Football
Satan's Hollow
Tron
DOT
Tapper
Timber
Mappy
Zwackery
Journey
Castlevania
Goonies
DK
Tetris
Hyper Sports
Sinistar (was down while I was there)
Defender
Bad Cats
Terminator 2
X Files
Roller Games

I know there were a lot more games there, just can't remember the rest.
...not to mention the regular arcade that was right around the corner.

I was there for 8 hours and didn't get to play everything I wanted to play between the museum and the arcade. I suppose I could've cut out eating.

One suggestion I would offer up is to have the fighting game tournaments in the regular arcade. There were a lot of people sitting on the floor which made it hard to get to a few games.

$10 admission was more than worth it - as well as the drive from Louisville.

The reason we did the fighting games in the museum was because we usually do them in there once a month without the games being on. We figured the extra incentive would get more cover charges and we were correct. 24 people from the tournament and 16 people outside the tournament. We will move the tournament to line up more with the doors being open and move Jungle Hunt/Timber/TinStar/Zoo Keeper/Zwackery to be better positioned so players won't be around them at all....

As you see we have no choice but to have tournaments in there sometimes to make the rent....heck we forgot to get chairs for them and that was a problem that we forgot about...

We'll figure out something...the next one will be the last Saturday in November (the day after Black Friday) and hopefully we can work on the power issues in the middle of the aisle that we had before, but 16 people is a small amount, so we have to have something else slightly in there, but we will make room....

I think we had around 75-76 machines in the museum...I'll get a complete list up on the website soon

Great. I will try to bring more people next time. Was supposed to be 6 people from here but 3 backed out for various reasons. I also need to figure out how to play Zwackery. Really cool game, I'm teriible at it. Hyper Sports is one of my favorite games....nice to play it again. I'm almost finished restoring mine and ive been dying to play it. Also thanks for getting the Interstellar up and working. That was the first time I've ever seen one.

It's going to be packed in there this time even more, but no tournament this time around....Nov 26 is the day on the next one....fixed up Food Fight to work correctly this time ,; )

Hopefully gonna make it in there this weekend after the Beer, Bourbon, and BBQ Festival!

Hopefully.
