I need a few parts quick so I stopped in to a local vendor Friday .... a vendor that resides also in the Seattle area and Mr. Ken Layton has little to no good things to say about them ;)

They had quite a few pins on hand so on my way out I decided to play a few pins I'd never played before "and a few I have or own".
The first game was High Speed. From a distance it really looked nice. Man o man once I got up close and personal, this playfield was pretty beat up. Regardless I played it. The game played very nice but it's just not got much in the way of any satisfying shots. Geez loueeez was I bored. Price tag of ...... $1599 on it with a craptacular playfield? Nahhhhh.

Next up was Monopoly. The flippers were fairly sluggish, and there was plastic pieces that weren;t properly secured down. The playfield looked pretty dull and partially dirty. Game play ... wow this game is a real stinker. Normally I love me some 3 flipper action but this game is just ridiculously lame to me. The spinning flipper - kind of a neat idea but get's more irritating than enjoyable. $2699 price tag

Next was Lord of the Rings. I already own one but I wanted to see how different mine played VS theirs. Yep, I had me some work to do when I got home because the return ball feeds were different reacting than mine. However their machine was just tired. Weak flips, and using black rubbers didn;t help the action either. I also found the machine was missing audio clips randomely (same firmware package as mine). The playfield was really dull looking and had a handful of bulbs out. And a mere $3200 for that one ... *snicker snicker*
On a side note their machine did show me where I needed to adjust /fix mine and I am grateful for that. Always nice to see where your machine may exceed or fail.

I guess my point here is not to price police but rather discuss my disgust about a retailer selling half assed machines and asking that kind of money. Seriously, I would be embarrased selling merchandise like that if it were my business. I'm not talking about replacing high dollar cracked or missing items. I'm talking about performing a standard run of the mill topside playfield shop job. A retail shop is truly only as good as their staff. This particular shop was/is an epic fail.

That's typical of most retailers. The average buyer won't know if a machine is out of tune or not. This is why most of us never buy from retailers, because they are overpriced and require work as soon as you bring it home even though they claim they have had their "TECH" go over the machine and it is in perfect working order.
