I was at a local game shop yesterday getting a DS game for the kid and looked over the arcade games they have for sale. Holy hell they are in terrible shape. Didn't have a camera but they have auctions on epay the pac in the backround needed work on the monitor and the controls and CPO sucked none of the joys in any of the games had been rebuilt and out of 5 or 6 machines only 1 had a new overlay. But the greatest one was the plexy CPO on the rampage looked like it had soda under it, was cracked allover and missing bolts

so my question to you guys is. In what shape does a game need to be to ask retail, IN A RETAIL STORE?
I would think a great if not perfect monitor, controls and CPO would be a given.
what else am i missing

There is a guy local to me – coin-op-games in Woonsocket, RI and he is pretty much the same deal. All the games he has are beat to hell and barely in workable condition, and he is always asking a premium for them.

He sells them on eBay and always lists them as "game room ready". I'm telling you, if I paid his price for something and had it shipped to me to find it in the crappy condition that he calls "game room ready" I would be extremely pissed.

right the one in the link has three different sized joysticks and all but one are barely upright

We do not sell any of our stuff without it going thru cleanup
Here is what we do.
1. Vac and blown out
2. Sanitized
3. Insides wiped out
4. Cabinet sanded and repainted if needed
5. Coin door repainted
6. Control panel cleaned and overlay applied depending on game
7. Levelers checked and replaced if needed
8. Monitor cleaned and checked and recapped if needed
9. Power supply check and replaced if needed
10. Header bars sanded and repainted and light replaced if needed
11. Harness and boards are checked and anything loose is strapped
12. Buttons and joysticks are checked and replaced if needed
13. Last the game is played and burned in

Now before anyone gets smart Iknow there was a Tron tha got by us but this is what should be done to sell as retail

There is a console video game store by me with a Defender, Millipede, and Super Mario Bros in a Pacman cab. The Defender and Millipede are like $800 which I guess is high but not surprising. Now for this "Super Rare all original dedicated" Super Mario he wants $5000!! Blahahahahahh

When he told me that I could hardly contain myself!!! :001_sbiggrin:

For me to pay retail price for a game it'd better be straight out of the crate mint. Retail prices are way to high these days to expect anything less.

at the very least, 100% clean, inside and out (as far as dirt, mouse shit, etc.) side art doesn't have to be great but the coin door should work, all lights working, capped monitor, known good power supply, new or good condition CPO. and it should survive burn tests.
