Restoring Bolts

Nice, never thought about blue-ing them. I usually just hit them with a wire wheel on the drill press. Electrolysis seems a bit overkill for this. Been thinking about getting a tumbler to clean them.

The electrolysis serves two purposes: breaking the bond of the rust from the metal so it's more easily removed, and restoring some of the rust back to steel. It doesn't work for all rust (it works for black rust, but not red rust). So when you hit the piece with your wire wheel it just comes right off.

I'm already set up for doing this kind of thing, so I just went with it.

The bluing is what the bolts were originally coated with. I've used flat black paint before, and it's /okay/ but doesn't look /quite/ right.
