I picked up an afterburner 2 cockpit. The game, including motion works, with the following hiccups.

1. vertical motor sometimes overloads and trips up breakers. Needs rebuilt.
2. crack in the plexiglass surround over the screen. I can get a new, properly shaped plexiglass surround for $80. What Im having issues with is the dashboard art (gauges, etc.) A local graphics/printer wants $240 to reproduce that on an insert that can be installed behind my new plexiglass.
I need a lead on the dashboard screen art if one exists (cockpit gauges, etc.).
3. plastic monitor bezel is cracked.... (i imagine this is cheap).
4. rubber non-slip surfaces are worn. Im going to find some marine 'matting' which is used on jetskis and stuff like that, unless i can find something better...
5. Paint...im going to repaint all the support bars. Pretty much they are either blue, or grey. Wood is painted black. I'll repaint that too.
Does anyone have any ideas on the exact paint names I should look for (ex. royal blue?, primer grey?, black/ gloss, etc.)
6. plastic surround around the ceiling mounted twin red warning lights. This was obviously jury rigged and is not original. Does anyone have a lead on this?

Sideart is amazingly in great shape.

Im toying with the idea of replacing the monitor, while im at it, but may not do so. Id love to make the graphics as crisp as this:
http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=6822
but i imagine thats coming from a PC computer version of the game.

Are there any other things I should check out? Like bearings of the cabinet right/left motion, etc.

Anything I should 'soup up' on it to make it better?

Ill be checking this post, but I can also be reached at [email protected]

if anyone has any parts for sale / great ideas.

Thanks.

Also take a look at the four ball-bearing rollers that support the moving part of the cabinet. Three of my four needed to be replaced. If you release the drive wheel, the cabinet should move pretty easily by hand. The rollers are available NEW at http://www.videogameparts.com/product.sc?productId=1016&categoryId=137

These are safety mats that shut off the motion under pressure. Not sure if the switch is embedded in the rubber or underneath.

I've been working on mine since February and really enjoying it. I'm hoping to finish everything up over Christmas. All my friends keep asking me if it's ready to play yet :D

I have a few NOS cockpit AB parts that I have not listed yet. From what I can remember just by glancing in the boxes....

joystick plastic surround (the blue plastic)
dash board plastic
monitor plex with graphics (or it could be the back plexi)
internal joystick parts made especially for the cockpit version.
I also have the pressure mats I'd sell cheap.

Where on Earth do you find this stuff?
