I currently am looking to restore an old GT Fore Complete. I have several things to consider but would like to focus on the monitor first and could use help.

I have a U2000 25". I purchased a cap kit. It is a very large cap kit at almost 40 caps Before I dive into that I am wondering if the tube is no good.

Here is what I am seeing:

  • Cannot get the focus correct in the corners (very blurry)
  • The picture is generally washed out. Nothing adjustments are able to fix.
  • The picture has a progressive side to side wave as you move from center to right side
  • On color adjustment screen, red is very bad or almost non existent.
  • There appear to be convergence issues. When going to the line screen in the settings. There are clearly unaligned colors. In addition, the second tab of the rings closest to the tube is broken off.
I am looking for recommendations. I prefer crt but was considering going to the UNICO screen.

Thanks in advance. Let me know what you need to help.

Looks like it's all yoke and ring issues. Everything has shifted. Caps will not help. Manual readjustment is needed. The Unico is good, but expensive, option, and requires some fabrication to mount and shroud it.

The wave could be bad sync or any number of issues. You'd have to troubleshoot that by starting at the beginning and checking B+ voltage. Then possibly capping and servicing the whole chassis before you do much more.

caps yes. Wincaps get a bad rap, I think the larger issue with this generation of monitors is the underrating of the cap voltages and the fact they're 25-30 years old and have taken a lot of abuse. cap kit is a definite must, and also give my post a read for some other areas that need reworking. Q703 if it doesn't have a heatsink attached needs one. I have to do an autopsy on a U2000 at work when I get a chance, I'm convinced the tube itself is cursed because it's eaten 2 K7400s and this U2000 3 times now.

your horizontal jitter is something I've seen before, but that was so many years and operations ago I can't remember the fix now. as that was a K7400, the H. Hold pot was on the deflection board, I remember needing to replace it. H. Hold on U2000 is on the remote board in the upper left corner, my suggestion is to turn that until the sync breaks, test it both ways, set it in the middle. otherwise the pots may need contact cleaner. I would venture your remote board has the nasty white ceramic pots. if you need any additional help tag/PM me.

The curse comment, is that just a personal funny aside or is there something inherently wrong that I should consider replacing altogether?

I would appreciate any assistance on the jitter issue.

I actually replaced the P718-G remote board with a new blue colored one from paradise arcade shop. This one, Remote Board . I thought it might solve the issue. It did not.
