I know that a good chunk of you guys are also closet members or lurk once in a while so if you have a few minutes, take a look at the final entries and place a vote. There were around 40 entries but very few actually finished on time. There's some good stories and plenty of pictures for inspiration. No reason this couldn't be done over here as well. Good luck to those who entered!

If that site wasn't such a pain in the ass to navigate, I'd spend more time there.

QFT. I registered to contact a local collector. I couldn't figure the place out. He never wrote me back either. I met him in person Saturday at our gameroom meetup. He said the same thing - too difficult to navigate so he gave up.

Paperboy was really good but I voted for Radar Scope because of the size of the project and the fact it is impossible to get parts to even restore such a peice.

CoinOpSpace does have more choices. If you just bookmark the forum page, you can ignore the rest of the site.

However there is some really great content elsewhere on the site. For example, the newly created Parts and Service Directory is a collaborative group where members are encouraged to submit links to inclusion in the directory. Other great uses of the Groups feature include: Pac-Man, Medieval Madness, and the most active group on the site the New England Arcade Collectors group.

Oh, and every member has their own blog, for those who don't want to hassle with hosting their own blog.

I hope that helps.

I voted for your Paperboy, but the Radarscope and Super Hang-on were nice too since there is no previous work to use for a new restoration. I would visit Coinopspace more, but my work computer is old and slows to a crawl on that site.

Just took a look. Nice restores. I see the "rules" thread says Galaga's are not eligible, but a Galaga is a finalist?!?

Wonder if Jeff made an exception.

I did think it was odd that "40 entries we're eliminated for violating the rules" and yet Galaga made it to the finalists. It's a very nice resto though.

The one that dissapointed me most was the Super Hang-On. Not because it was bad, but because it was so completely awesome and there we're NO pictures of the restore process, just before and after. I can't even begin to imagine what went into restoring that, and would have really enjoyed seeing pictures of the process.

They allowed mames to be entered...

Yes MAMES were eligible however the rules followed.

"Mame projects are eligible, but only the most interesting or original projects stand a chance at winning. This is a restoration contest after all.

- Do not MAME a classic for this contest!
- Scratch built based on a classic or generic cabinet (dynamo, fighters, etc) resurrection OK.
- We've seen it all, do something new and exciting"

I agree, it was a galaxian and in the end was disqualified.

Is it true that one of the rules was that the restoration couldn't be posted on another forum or was that a misinterpretation?

Several very nice restorations. Seeing them still makes me want to do a serious restoration, but I'll never have the time again. The Paperboy especially eats at me because that's a game I often think about adding to the short list.

Had I known there would be so few that qualified, I might have hustled on my 720 more. I just figured there'd be 100 restorations that qualified!! I guess most people are doing other things over the summer, seems to be a lot more activity in the winter.

My understanding of the rules was the restoration had to be documented on their site. You couldn't just hotlink to another site and say "Look what I did". I think it was a way to try and direct users to different functions of the site (the forum, the ability to create your own blog, etc.).
