Resto of Galaga UR #157.......

That's looking good! Add me to the list of people doing a Galaga restoration. Mine cab was very badly water damaged, so it'll be my winter project to rebuild the cabinet from scratch. Too bad I won't get to paint it until spring when it warms up enough outside.

I just like the snowmobiles in the background on all the shots. :)
It is a nice Galaga by the way.
Won't be long till they get fired up!! :) Its going to be cold, and snowy, might as well enjoy it!
Thanks for all the kind words guys!
I've been lacking a little motivation myself lately.....This crappy fall weather I suppose....
I can't wait to get this project wrapped up.
Here is a before and after shot of the coin door....
I polished all the metal, buffed the coin plexi, and put on a nice coat of valspar satin black.

Looks great! Galaga and Ms. Pac are two of my cabinets that plan to restore next. Both of them are just so iconic in the arcade world and mine need cosmetic help anyway.

Love these pics. I stripped mine down today, sanding and primer tomorrow....

NICE! Galaga is such a nice looking cab. Well worth the time and effort to restore. I'm such a big fan of the Midway stuff.
Well took a couple baby steps today. Installed the T molding, and the kick plate today....
Not much progress, but at least heading in the right direction.....
A couple more pics.....

Great job so far, that looks outstanding! What color tmolding are you going with? I usually prefer to keep everything original, but I'm going to make an exception with my Galaga (whenever I get to it) and go with the "Galaxian Green" color. I agree that the art from Phoenix is top-notch.

What color tmolding are you going with?
Well it had the black leather style T-molding on it. I believe it was original? When I removed it, it was factory stapled in all the right places........
That is what I put on it. IT LOOKS SHARP! I do like the Galaxian Green color on these cabs, but I wanted to keep this thing looking as close to original as possible....
My new Marquee came in today from Phoenix. I am SOOOOOO glad I spent the extra money on it. The old one wasn't terrible, but the new one looks INCREDIBLE.
I broke down the control panel today too. Cleaned up the stick, the buttons.... Tomorrow I'll remove the old CPO and try to get it put all back together.....
Here are a few shots with the new marquee, the bezel back on and the old control panel on just for effect......
Also a shot of the CP......

Looks great Matt!
Good choice on the original leatherette molding. CPO and a "War Games" topper and that thing is museum/basementcade ready :D

That's looks really nice! I also strongly considered going with the Galaxian green t-molding for mine, but settled on the black leather texture like the original.

Any close ups of the marquee? How does it compare to an original screened onto glass?

Here you go. The Phoenixarcade marquee is SECOND TO NONE! It is reversed screened onto PLEXI, not glass, just as the original was.......
The colors are a little "deeper" on the repo, I'm guessing that the original is just faded a bit....
Spots of the red on the original were flaking off. I tried to repaint the back and it LOOKED GREAT! The problem was when it was back lit, any little bit that I colored out "out of the lines" you could REALLY see it......
It was not acceptable for this resto....

I finished the control panel today. I used my heat gun and sander to remove the old CPO. Put the new CPO on, polished up the bolt heads, and put it all back together. IT TURNED OUT AWESOME!
