Well first off I pulled the monitor. The game played blind, so I figured I'd give it a Bob Roberts Deluxe kit....
I did, and the thing STILL didn't work.... long story short, turns out it was R908 was open.... The thing drove me NUTS trying to figure it out, eventually I did, dialed the B+ to 120, and got a REALLY nice picture out of it. I don't think the lady was BSing at all when she told me that it sat in her garage since the mid 80's and that her kids, and GRANDkids all grew up playing this machine....
The "Freeplay" had more burn on the tube than anything else burned into it...

Nice pickup man, got an extra set of side art for Galaga. Bought a complete set and the one I finally picked up had a set of side art with it. For some reason my machine came with no side art from the factory.

my machine came with no side art from the factory.
THANKS! Read that first link for the FULL back story on this machine.....
It spent its working life in a place called "Fun n Games" in Boardman Ohio.....Still has the plaque on it, I'll be posting pics of it later...
I have the full side art for THIS machine, but pm me a price for the set you have, I may be interested?

Nice pickup! That's gotta be one of the lowest serial number Galaga's on here (running off to search for the lowest/highest thread). I currently have #5065 all torn apart in my garage, waiting patiently to be restored...

I would think it would HAVE to be right? Let me know what you find! I was pretty amazed when I saw low it was……

ahhhh this thing has been a pain in the @ss....
I rolled a nice coat on it only to find about 50 bugs stuck in the paint the next day......
I'm going to redo the whole GD thing! Maybe I'll wait till it cools off and there are no bugs out.....
In the mean time I'll start the coin door and marquee brackets......

Long over due update.
First I stripped off the old artwork . It was a major pain. I used a heat gun and a scraper to remove it. IT TOOK HOURS! It wasn't a fun part of the process.

Then came the sanding and the bondo process! AGAIN NOT FUN!!!
In the end, I got it smooth as a babies butt, and all the corners sharp as a razor!

Then came 2 coats of Zinsers Bin primer. I sanded it again between coats. And then sanded it smooth after the second coat.
Now it was ready for paint....

Looking good Matt!
Nice low numbered Galaga....can't wait to see some black paint on that thing :)

Then came the biggest pain of the whole project thus far. I rolled on a coat of Rustoleum Satin black. It turned out great, but it was going to need a second coat. The next day I put on the second coat. Again turned out GREAT! I came back an hour later only to find about 100 bugs stuck in the paint! So I had to sand it back down, and put a 3rtd coat on. Well for some reason it had roller marks bigger than $hit all over it......
So I sanded it down AGAIN, and then decided to buy a compressor and a spray gun.
So I wait until there was a nice cool morning before the bugs were out, and put two nice coats on....FINALLY IT TURNED OUT GREAT!!!!
I Love the finish that paint gives.....

Heheh! I posted before your latest update...
Finish looks awesome! :001_sbiggrin:

Thanks Phil! That's about where I'm at night now.
I just finished the coin door, and the marquee brackets. I'll be posting some more pics of that tomorrow. Pretty much all that is left is some wiring work. I need to replace a Molex connector, and I think I'm going to put a new updated power supply in it. Also the Marquee needs some touch up work..... More to come this week I hope on this project.

This does me good to see.

I'm currently stripping down a Galaga and getting it ready for bodywork and painting. Excellent motivation!
