resistor question

need to get a 33k ohm resistor for the mute circuit on my tron board. question - all i can find locally is a 33k 1/2 watt, where the original is a 33k 1/4 watt. will the 1/2 watt work, or is that a bad idea? didn't know if it was similar to a cap where you can go up in voltage rating as long as the value is the same.

If it will physically fit, then you are fine using a half watt resistor.
Going with a larger wattage is usually fine but comes at the expense of a being a larger part.
The only time you don't want to do this is in the rare cases of low inductance resistors where going larger increases the inductance. But, this is extremely rare and doesn't apply in your case.
