anyone have a clue why a resister would burn up?

have a asteroids audio board game playing blind sound was fine was looking around the back noticed smoke

turned it off resister burnt up and was burning through the fiberglass
no idea what resister # would be burnt off board but it is the resister next to the 6 prong connection on a Atari regulator audio 2 pcb

can not find a decent picture to find the # location to find the replacement value
and i have no clue why it burnt up lol
yet to investigate

If it were an ARII, it would sound like R29. Very common problem. It happens because of a poor ground connection at the game PCB edge connectors. Check them for dirty or blackened pads, and check the connector sockets for dirty or misadjusted pins. And replace the burnt resistor.

But I hope you're mistaken when you say "on a Atari regulator audio 2 pcb" or ARII, because Asteroids uses an Atari Regulator Audio 1 pcb or ARI board. if you are trying to use an ARII board, then that's probably your problem.

If it IS an ARI, there doesn't look to be a resistor next to the 6-prong connector. The manual shows a diode and a cap there (I was too lazy to go grab an ARI to go look at)...

The A/R I has a diode in the same location as R29 on an A/R II. They both burn up the same, for the reasons that Mod has stated.

thanks for the reply

yeah this asteroids has been in a non climate controlled shed harness is pretty rusty etc
if that can cause the issue ill replace the harness connector

ill check parts list for that location and get the diode thanks

looked like a resister but it was already burnt up
