Hello all,

I'm trying to find out more about the 19-in-1 Multi Jamma Horizontal PCB.

I'm especially interested in how close it is to the real PCB for these games:

Ghosts N Goblins
Gradius
Super Mario Brothers

If anyone would like to share their experiences, I would greatly appreciate it!

All Games on 19-in-1:

Battle City
Blaster
Bubbles
Defender
Do! RunRun
Ghosts N Goblins
Gradius
Ice Climber
Joust
Kick Rider
Mario Bros
New Rally-X
Rally-X
Robotron: 2084
Sky Kid
Solomon's Key
Splat
Stargate
Super Mario Bros

I have the 9 in 1, which is the precursor to the 19 in 1. GNG is very well emulated, as is Joust, Defender, Robotron and Stargate. SMB is OK, but the original Mario Bros sucks. Sounds are wrong, video looks squished, etc. Kick Rider seems OK, Battle City as well, but I have never played their arcade counterparts. I can't comment on the extra 10 games, as my board doesn't have them.

I cant really compare to the originals since I only played it for a short time at a local retailer. But it seemed good, they did have a few games turned off which might have something to do with the control problems that Modessitt refers to. I bought one of the boards but never hooked it up, someday I'll get time.
He gave some suggestions on how to set it up so all games worked, His review is based on trying to use the Arcadeshop control panel, not how the games play

I did the review as it pertains to using it with the MultiWilliams control panel sold by Arcadeshop, but you can read about how the different games function, and my recommendation as to a proper layout for all the games to be played as well as possible...

I don't have much experience with some of the games on there (like Ice climber, Kick rider, gradius) but I didn't notice anything about GnG or SMB to make me think there was a problem with anything. I played quite a bit of GnG when testing it...

I have it. Awesome little jamma board it is. Only thing is there are a few useless games on there. Kick Rider I'm looking at you.......

I have one as well and I like it. The main Williams titles all play well; I don't play the others much... My only gripe is that Joust is one player only. That is the main reason the jrock board is heading my way..

I got my 19-1 from avidcollect; fair price for sure

What are you talking about? With two joysticks and the menu set to Upright/2 controls, Joust 2-player (and Mario bros 2-player, etc) works just fine....

Really? I went into the menu and it did not give an option to have Upright/2 player.. but i did not seek out Upright/2 controls.. I shall look into this.

Joust will work 2 player - you just have to have the cabinet set up right.

The williams games are a little wonkey with setup. You can have defender/stargate work with joystick up/down instead of the 5 buttons - and the buttons are weird. I usually played without those games on.

Mario bros is pretty bad - the sounds are way off.

Arcadeshop instead

I think that the best alternative at this range is the Arcadeshop set to horizontal, which runs these games. Let me know if you are interested cause I have a spare one laying around and can set it up for on which games you want. The key for me is that it supports OG Tetris, which is an important one in a classic Horizontal set of games. I think that the JROK is the best for a Muli Williams but if you want something a little more, the arcade shop is pretty good. Now if they'd only get GnG and SMB in there, i'd be really happy.

* Berzerk

joust can be played with 2 players, you have to change in the menu for 2 joysticks
at least thats what i did

I stand corrected! Sorry for the mis info, I honestly tried to set it up for 2 player, but gave up on it too early....

THANX for straightening me out, cause yea I went to the next switch over in the menu and changed it to 2 controls. Sweet.

But anyhow, I have a friend that wants this board in a cab so the Jrock will still be needed. :-D

played a couple games on one a few months back, seemed right on to me.

Depends on if you want to buy direct from overseas or from suppliers here. Here you can contact Nixs...

The 19-in-1 is pretty decent, the games are well emulated. A couple of the titles use 5 buttons (Defender / Stargate) which i don't think all versions of this board support properly since the jamma standard only accounts for 3 buttons, so if you like those games, you may want to double check which version it is before you buy.

The menu is easy to navigate but sort of ugly and annoying and the game select music (which you can turn off fortunately) is pretty bad. I also wish there was a way to show more of a particular games attract mode. As it is, the menu will cycle through the games automatically and only give a few seconds of each game's demo screen with big red letters flashing at the top superimposed over whatever demo is playing. When you select a game from the menu it loads the game and inserts a quarter immediately so you miss out on seeing the title screen. Previewing a game puts the big red letters back into view over the game screen as well.

The board also requires a minute or so to load all the roms and emulator into memory on booting up. The good news is theres no loading in between game selection once the board is up and running.

Minor gripes aside its a really cool board. The games play well and until something better than the awful 138-in-1 series comes along, its still a good choice for getting a dedicated set of classic games on a single jamma board.

Game options

How your game works as per game options/test depends on if you have an "A" bosrd or a "B" board clone/knockoff board. Between 2 joysticks and 5 buttons on each side (makes it Ambi.)of the joysticks they work best in an old Mortal Kombat or equale cabinet. In my case they sre on my route so they are ambi so all can play them, ie put in da moneyhttp://forums.arcade-museum.com/images/icons/icon7.gif !!!
