So I was trolling craigslist and found a Killer Instinct 1 dedicated cabinet... from a high crime zone area of north jersey. The previous owners were really nice and inviting, helped me take it out of their basement but it didnt help that I had to drive through some rough patches to pick it up - RISKS! I probably overpaid a little bit but plan to offset the cost by selling the ki2 board/bezel art/cpo/marquee in a kit on eBay. The actual artwork is in great shape even though it is rough around the edges. Does anyone have any experience masking off artwork to be able to sand/bondo/prep to paint corners and edges? I have a NOS dedicated KI-1 CPO, Marquee and board-set. Plan to put in chrome t-molding to pimp it out, and some fresh iL Eurosticks - maybe even chrome bat-tops. I'll post the serial number \ batch tag later...

Drove 98 miles each way close to 200 round trip!

What do you guys think? :D

Suddenly i don't like you very much

grats :D what did it cost ya?

:(. $500 cash --- not too bad but Im gonna have to shop the monitor, and who knows if the tubes got any life left heh. When my new home arcade is finished this will defenitdly be the crown jewel/trophy of the entire room

that's not a terrible price.

no machine would be worth it if there wasn't some blood solder and tears.

Much respect for rescuing a classic.

Something you might consider if you really want to go to mint with this bad boy. Get one of these hand scanners and a straight edge for a guide, and scan this art in before you begin touchups.

If you have good original raster files to work from, someone around here might be wiling to touch them up for you so you can have them printed. Additionally, you would be helping out folks who were less blessed with their KI's art.

Now you would have a back up plan for if the touchups go south. It can be hard to do proper looking touchups on these 90's cabs because of the off set printing used to apply the original art.

Just don't let whoever touches up your scanned images remove the original stippling (dots when viewed close up) from the art. That's part of the original look afterall.
