How good/bad is this game? I hear that the helicopter gets annoying after while and can break easily.. any comments? I'm thinkiing of getting one as a first pin... The price would be in my price range (sub 800).

I played this game a lot in a league about 10 years ago. I really did not like this game (and I have a pretty broad and varied range of pins that I like, from EMs to classic SS games to DMDs, DE/Stern/Sega/WMS/BLY/CAP/GTB etc.) I don't recall anything that was much fun with this game. It was part of the dismal series of games that GTB/Premier released in the 90's.

Yeah, I was hoping to find a DMD pin that doesn't have monsters and bloody shoot-em-ups on it. I am looking for a first pin that would be 'kid friendly' so to speak but would be fun enough for the grownups to play.

I watched the gameplay on youtube and I think it's kind of weird having the ball drop right ontop of the flippers at the beginning, and not starting at the top of the field.

Their are a lot of games that drop at the flippers and not the top. Keep digging you will find many games without monsters and blood stuff....

It is a good game for the kids, mine love it.
Yes the ball drop at the start is not too cool but the rest of it is a desent enough game for general family and non hard core pinball friends.
Make sure the chopper can pick the ball up, mine hardly ever does because it is not strong enough.
Never got to the bottom of it, will look again this winter.

Might be good for kids, but if it will be the OP's first (and only) pin (at least for a little while!!) I would NOT recommend Rescue 911. The OP will want to play it too, and that game could turn anyone off of pinball. Lots of great games out there for well under $1k, with acceptable themes, that are actually fun to play.
