Required Tools For Doing A Cap Kit

Basically all you need (besides caps) is a soldering iron, something to desolder with - either a soldapult (recommended), desoldering station (expensive), or solder braid (cheap but time consuming) - and some flush cutters for trimming the legs of the new caps after installation. You'll also need solder for putting the new parts in, and sometimes you'll need a 1/4" nutdriver or phillips screwdriver to remove the chassis from the frame.

Basically that's it. I also use a dry, clean small paintbrush to clean off dust and dirt, a bright lamp to see what I'm doing, and sometimes a magnifying glass if I need to inspect solder joints.

Now, if you plan to replace flybacks, transistors, chips, etc, then a small phillips screwdriver, a small flathead, and a pair of needlenose pliers are handy to have around, too.

And an alligator jumper to attach to a flathead is goo to have for discharging monitors, too....

you will need some type of this as well

what modessitt means is to buy or build yourself a discharging tool, as per this page on Bob Roberts' site:

http://www.therealbobroberts.net/sb.html

virtually any capkit walk-through will talk about discharging the tube which this tool will take care of.
