I want to scratch build a Ms. Pac-Man for my next project.

For my last project, I used a "Wells Gardner style pinball door" from Twisted Quarter. It was a good match for the original item.

The Midway coin doors are kind of unique.

My preferred route would be to buy a repo door with mechs and just use that. I can't seem to find anyone that makes/sells Midway-style reproduction doors. Lots of parts, but not the whole kit. Are there any that I'm missing?

I dunno if I want to refurb an old one. I mean, I guess I would if I had to, but the perfectionist in me would turn it into a huge project with sandblasting, polishing and powder coating.

I see other people's projects were they just use your run of the mill door. I'm sure 95 percent of the people who encountered my machine wouldn't know any better, but I don't know if I could get over it.

Transaction in progress

Thanks for the lead. I managed to track down Takeman and his current sales thread, he had a couple of left, so the transaction is in progress.

Nothing like the fear of parts availability to expedite the build out :)

What if I build it with all repo-parts?

Now that I have a frame/door ordered I'm looking at the rest of what I would need to do to build out the door.

What makes the most sense is getting a used one and parting it out, but what if I didn't do that?

Part of me wants to assemble one from all new parts and wire the whole thing up myself. I realize this wouldn't be the cheapest route, but it'd keep me busy for a while. Plus I was going to wire this up to a JAMMA harness anyway, so wiring my own would save me an adapter, or I'd be re-wiring stuff anyhow.

I have to admit, I have nearly zero experience with coin doors, but I've found a lot of images in these threads and I've started assembling a parts list. Here's what I have (in no particular order):

  1. Coin Entry Plate
  2. Plastic Slide (Not positive what this is)
  3. Coin Guide Chute (Not positive what this is)
  4. Lock and Key set
  5. Lamp Holder
  6. Lamps
  7. Anti-Slam Switch (I think I'd probably omit this)
  8. Coin Switch Bracket (Does anyone sell these?)
  9. Ejector Buttons and Springs (Does anyone sell these?)
  10. Four post Coin Mech
  11. 25 Cent Window Sticker
  12. "Video is our Game" logo plate
  13. Coin Switch w/ Actuator Wire
  14. Bracket w/ Test / Service Buttons (not an exact match; don't think I care)
  15. Coin Counter w/ Diode

I think that's pretty close to a complete parts list. There are a few things I can't seem to find, or I'm uncertain of exactly which pieces they are. I noted them in the list.

I guess I did find a "Complete Coin Acceptor Assembly", but it's not clear if they include the ejector buttons, and it feels really overpriced ($150 at time of writing).

Thoughts? Comments? Help?

Buy a repro, powder coated door from Takeman. Buy an old, used door and swap that stuff over.

I second Joeycuda's recommendation. Why go through the headache and expense of finding all the individual parts in repro or NOS format? It's just the inside of a coin door.

Get an old door for the parts.

If you really want to go all out, ship the parts off to have them replated.
