I spent some time trying to get these sorted a year or so ago without much success.
It looks like they be available soon.

24 pin single row, just like the original.

They aren't cheap though :( around 9 or 10 bucks a shot. I will update this thread when they turn up.

I've been using SCSI cables, but worried about the power draw since the original had such fat wires. Did you have problems with the SCSI cable approach? What motivated you to go all the way with these cables?

Hopefully these are actually made better than the originals. You do realize that the reason we have to replace these is that it was a very bad design in the first place, right? Those printed mylar cables and the type of connectors just don't hold up and can't really handle the application. The IDC type "SCSI" ribbon cables are far superior to the original versions.

occasionally i see some 24 pin single row ide cables that i believe are the factory replacements. I wish i could find some of those connectors, that'd be the ticket for replacing them.
IDE cables work fine, they're just slightly more work to use.

Yep, I've seen those also......mostly on the games that have the big metal plates between the boards (Spy Hunter/Tapper/etc.).

I seen those type of ribbons on MCR 3 games. (Tapper/Timber/Demolition Derby) I think the factory recognized the plastic ones were junk, and they upgraded them.

Yes, I had some spy hunter boards with these also. The scsii cables work just fine. The problem is people dont understand or dont take the time to install them correctly.

Samtec Part # IDSS-24-D-04.00-T

Last priced @ $4.550 each 2/2011 , perfect replacement part.

I've used the Samtec cables, they are very nice...although some here won't like them as they are IDC.

Samtec emailed me a few weeks back with pricing:
Part #: IDSS-24-D-04.00
CS OEM Pricing

Price
1to 499 $6.400
500-999$5.670
1,000-4,999$5.230
5,000-9,999$4.870
10,000-15,000$4.650

Once you add tax and import to $6.40 they are around the same price for me.

If you can get them for $4.550 each then go with that.

My opinion with the MCR cables is that the header pins get dirty and cause the power load to be distributed unevenly, which in turn cause burnt pins. If you look at the number of pins and divide the load, each cable has enough current carrying capacity.
