Has anyone made these? Or does anyone know a source? Just picked up a neo geo joust cocktail.. It needs help, artwork, boards, scored a wire harness from an upright.. Hope it works..

Nope. It's easier to spot bigfoot than it is toget Joust cocktail shafts. Patience to find and a quick "I'll buy them" when you do find them is all you can do.

I could have sworn that someone did this years ago...

There was a guy that sold on rgvac for a while and was able to make any of the joysticks and some other plastic parts. For health reasons, or something, he disappeared.

I KNOW for a FACT that it has been done. I should have bought some, but I thought that my originals weren't "bad enough" to need replacing...

I knew I had seen them somewhere too. The Wayback Machine is my friend.....

Arcadeshop had them at one point. Might contact them and see if they have a set kicking around still.

Or you can make your own like I had to do. I took upright sticks and machined them down to the size of the cocktails. The picture below shows the original and the machined down "repros" I made.

The hard part is to find the bases for these, not the sticks themselves. I had to buy a couple Stargate cocktail control panels just to harvest the bases because the originals looked like this:

Harness and photos

I know the upright harness won't be a straight swap.. But the cabinet is empty, so why couldn't I modify it for the cocktail? The control part of it will need to be modified, but I'd assume I could use it a a basic template.. I don't need to put everything exactly back together on the inside :)

could someone with a joust cocktail take some photos of the inside for me? So I could get a basic idea for placement? Thanks

I have an empty Joust CT as well that I'm going to put back together. I'm just going to use the upright joysticks since I have nothing at all. It should be fairly easy just to route out a little wood to make them fit, once I can get around to it.

Wiring pics are toward the end of this restoration http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=91176&highlight=joust&page=2

Portions of the UR harness will work fine, but will be a bit long, and other portions just will not work without a lot of modification.

The cp's are wired individually in a CT as opposed to a UR. The AC and DC power wiring is not quite the same either, be very careful there.

I have made brand new repro harness' for both the UR and the CT, AC harness and DC harness. Not looking to Pimp my wares, just saying be very careful attempting to wire a CT using a harness for a UR.

I bought Dokert's Robotron control panel harness, and as much as I like to DIY everything, it was worth every penny and more. Go ahead and buy his wiring harness for the cocktail. No way you will regret it. Modifying an upright one just wouldn't be worth the time and mess and it not being 'right' vs buying a new one from him.

Harness

I would be interested in a harness.. Thanks for letting me know you make them.. I removed the control panels today and found part of the neo geo conversion that wasn't pretty.. The centers of the cp's have been routed out.. So standard sticks and buttons could fit..

I'll attach photos tomorrow.. Big bummer.. But, since the damage has been done, I can now fit upright controls on the cp with ease.. I'd still have to make
something to cover the damage, and mount the controls to.. Yay! Another project from conversion hell.

Yea, that's pretty ugly, but not as bad as what they did to my Joust cocktail. The operator cut a hole in the bottom of the control panel area so the joysticks could stick through the holes and then attached two meat loaf pans (painted black) over the holes from the outside.
