Would you report an illegal arcade's activity?
What would you consider illegal?
What are your thoughts?

***Update***
I have no intention of report or condoning what is done in your own privacy. As long as your activity does no harm. I don't see a problem with it. I for one have multiple games ranging from the atari console days to the newest 360 games for the kinect. I also do own an all in one for the Neo Geo MVS and other multi game carts. The reason I ask this question is because I wanted to see the peoples response to multi-carts and under what conditions you would feel compelled to report illegal activity. I want to stress I am for preserving the arcade industry. I see no reason why asia should have game centers and we lack them. I want to thank everyone for commenting respectfully. I appreciate your opinions.

I don't think I woreuld do anything to shut down an arcade that is operating and keeping games available to the public.

If you are referring to 60 in 1 machines, I wouldn't report those either.

Maybe they're slinging coke? I would leave them alone. :p

Same here- in my mind, it would be counter-productive to report something such as this. I just want to see arcades stick around, particularly when they have older games.
Heck, my local arcade had a 60 in 1 running and I wouldn't bother reporting it. Rather, I tossed a couple of quarters in it, just to see how it felt to play Burgertime & Moon Cresta in an arcade.

What would be gained by telling on them? Even then, I think your concerns would fall on deaf ears. I am sorry, I just don't see the point in it.

I spoke a to guy who owned a local vending route with some vintage games, claw machines and the gum ball type machines with toys in the plastic bubbles. He said when the economy turned south competitors starting filing a variety of nuisance type complaints in an effort to have his machines pulled from various locations. Their aim was simply to reduce competition and/or take over the space....the complaints were largely without merit. From our discussion, it sounds like things have gotten a little out of hand.

I understand the same thing happens a lot on Craigslist with people flagging ads to stiffle competition. Nothing but grown men acting like children if you ask me.

As for the OP, what aspect of the arcade is illegal? What do you have to gain by reporting it?

It is not often you find an adult with a family and career who has the time to file a report in an effort to have a 60-1 machine pulled from a local pizza shop or laundry mat. I'm sure if you took a look around your community there are countless other thing you could do to improve the quality of life for your family or neighbors than waste your time and law enforcement resources to investigate the legality an arcade game.

However, if that makes you sleep better at night then more power to you.

If you report them and the games get seized, you could probably get some sweet deals when they get auctioned.

What part of "illegal" are you complaining about?

a) Multigames? If you get technical, I doubt it's illegal to put one on location. It may be illegal to buy or sell - to own, I'm not sure - but the original copyright holder would have to file a complaint or lawsuit to get it removed. Police (local or federal) and district attorneys aren't likely to respond to an isolated instance without the copyright holder's insistence.

b) Games without tax stickers? I've heard of rival operators reporting these things to the tax assessors - either to "punish" their competition, in an attempt to get the games removed so they can put their own in, or as retaliation ("I got busted for not paying so they should too).

c) 8-liners? So many of these things seem to be illegal in the way they're operated (as gambling instead of entertainment) that it surprises me to see them all over the place. But - I recently saw a cop parked outside one, but only to watch for speeders. If you have one nearby that bugs you, report it to the sherriffs office.

d) Outside zoning areas? Maybe a house nearby has a bunch in the garage and is charging kids to play? Again, if it affects you personally (your kids losing their allowance) or you're head of the HOA, report it.

In my opinion, it's not my job to police it when it doesn't affect me personally. I always tell my customers who put them in commercial locations that they need the tax stickers, but I don't report the ones who don't. If they get busted, it's their own damn fault...

enforcement does nothing to stop the illegal coin pushers they are running in ca.. Short of someone running a slot or poker machine, I don't think they will do anything..

you must find a better way to occupy your time if your thinking about turning them in. atleast they are trying to make some money, better than sitting on their but and getting a government handout. matt

snitches are bitches. i would say if they are operating an arcade on your property without permission and not paying you rent or splitting the take, then you have a reason to complain. otherwise mind your own business.

There's a quarter pusher in a gas station down the street, about 3 blocks from a school. Tons of 8-liners around. I'm sure if a place went up specifically to offer gambling, somebody would take issue, but there are just bigger things to worry about.

Id never drop a dime on a mom and pop store/restaurant but I think some of those "Arcade's" are getting some attention. Ive never been to one,I think there like Illegal casino's.
