NEW ReplayFx 2016 - Who's going?

I thought it went well. I did have trouble hearing many of the games. If I could suggest I would put the dance games somewhere where they are just a smidge less intrusive. Having said that the kids LOVE those games. So I think they are important. Maybe their own section? And the random pa's blaring music into the console gaming section literally caused me to walk away from there and not return. But I'm old.

The only solution to the noise I could think of was headphone jacks on the machines which would be a pain to install.

I always like it if I come away loving something new. I found at least three new pins to obsess over. Fire, Hook, and the original Indiana Jones. Now I need Round 15k to buy them.

Wait. There was beer??

Yeah - there was a tiny stand near the exit doors with beer & a few other things. 7 bucks for a Blue Moon or Yuengling and whatever else they had there.

That said, the more discreet among us were able to avoid all that...

There was beer up front by the doors and beer at the main concession stand in the back. Unfortunately in the back they only had Yeungling and Bud-Light. I was a little upset when the bar closed at 8PM! Oh the sacrifices we have to make for the hobby!

As someone who likes making suggestions when I have to do zero of the work, it would be cool if they lined up the arcade games so there was, say, a row of Williams, a row of Midway, etc. After that, rows of Donkey Kong-related games, Pac-Man-related, etc.

It would also be nice to not have to walk all over the convention center searching for arcade games. Why not put them all on end/side of the hall instead of mixed in with pinball? They're almost to that point now.

Nearly 60 hours of uptime for that hardware is a huge win, actually.

I think we shared the same moment playing that.

Most of the games were on non-stop since late Monday / Early Tuesday and not turned off till 5PM Sunday. I believe there were 6 dead arcade games at the end of the show. Not bad out of around 275 games. I'm just happy Zoo Keeper ran the whole time.

I was unaware of issues with Red Baron. I'll check it out when it gets back to PAPA.

Spy hunter II has my vote for worst game ever.

I think this is a good idea. It seems like a scavenger hunt walking all over the convention center to find all the games. Maybe they could put rows of all the golden age arcade games together (not necessarily organized by manufacturer as I would think it would be time consuming), and setup a separate area for the modern games.

Perhaps do the same for the non-tournament pinball machines only group the electromechanical games together, and then maybe group the rest by the decade they were manufactured. I'm a big fan of the 80s pinball machines so it would be cool to hop from one machine to the next in one location.

Only other suggestion I would make is to have a loud speaker and make announcements about what's going on at the show. I didn't even know the Pinburgh finals were going on when I was there Saturday night. I just happened to be walking by when the confetti was flying and "We Are the Champions" started playing.

Also, others have mentioned that there was low attendance for the guest speakers. Even though there was a schedule posted, it would've been nice to have announcements e.g. "Alfred E Neuman will be speaking in 10 minutes."

Other than that, I thought it was a great show again - probably better than last year. I will be back for 2017!

One thing I forgot to mention was etiquette which some people lack. When I'm done playing a game whether it's video or pinball, I take a look behind me to see if anyone is waiting to get a turn on the game before I start another game.

I was waiting to play Star Trek Pro and this guy finished his game and immediately credited up the machine. I got in his ear and said "could you put a second credit on there so I can play too?" and he said "you can have your turn when I'm done."

So I reached into my cargo shorts pocket, pulled out a switchblade, cut his throat and hid his body under an Addams Family.

Add to that the many couples I encountered playing four player games.

So that's what I must've kept kicking when I was playing Addams Family...

As of this afternoon I still hold the Mr. Do! high score on the one dedicated game that plays properly (the other dedicated has a weird speed hack when Do! is digging).

I know I saw Jen May walking around with DJ Darryl and I got to meet the legendary Buffet, who, was soldering something for some reason.

And not to mention Techs Adam Airhart (aairhart) and Ted (slots).

What a great festival.
I ran out of fingers to keep track of the behrmr sightings.
