I am starting to restore my first cabinet and was curious if anyone replaces those torx security screws with something standard. The heads of a majority of the screws are a bit rusty so my plan was to replace the screws, but wasn't sure if I should make it look authentic with the security screws or just make it easy on myself later with Phillips head screws.

Thoughts?

If the machine will be used in a home collection then feel free to replace them with anything suitable. If the machine will ever go back out on route the reuse or replace with the security screws. The torx/security screws were originally used to deter vandals from walking away with the machine one part at a time.

Home use only. Only vandal I have is my 3 year old, and she isn't very good with a screw driver yet.
Give it time.

U could always use Allen heads to make it look somewhat similar...that's what I use and looks good.
Same here, I just bought a pile of hex-head 10-24 bolts for my Midway cabarets.

Depends, if it's missing some, I'll replace all with phillips head. If they are still there, I usually keep them. If they are rusty, you can sand them down and hit them with some semi-gloss black. Makes them look new.

Just replace with button head hex screws, like Atari used on most stuff, if you really can't stand security screws. I did get some NOS 'Sega' screws from Mylstar though, to use in some Sega projects. If you can replace with the original style fasteners, why not? It's not like you'll need to pull a bracket off and not have the proper bits. A set of security bits is dirt cheap at Harbor Freight or from Bob.
