I have come into possession of two taito cabinets that need some TLC. What do I do about the sides? They seem to have some sort of contact paper on them. Where can I get this if I need to cover the sides of the cabinets again?

Need more details.. what games are they? Did someone put contact paper over the sides, or are you referring to the stenciled/screened "Taito" art?

It looks like the stenciled taito artwork however it would seem like it's stenciled onto something and not directly onto the particle board or whatever it is. If it's directly on then that's fine.

I'll post pics as soon as I can. It's that top down shooter. I think it was twin eagle.

Here's a pic I snapped of the side. There was a little water damage on the little wood pedestal at the base but the rest is fine. The back door is also deteriorated a bit as well.

Click shows the deterioration.

What you have there is a Qix cab. It was originally screened directly to the wood. Sand it down, bondo it, sand it again and then you can repaint with stencils if you want the original look back.

I could use the control panel from that if you are willing to part with it. If you need a Taito cp I have some here that we could trade with if you are not keeping it a Twin Eagle.

Just restored a Taito in about that bad of shape. Had to use 3 coats of primer once bondo'd and sanded since the wood is sooooooo cheap.

Yeah that's what I'm looking at now. I had to just rebuild the pedestal that it was sitting on, this time with solid wood and not the crap that was in there. If anyone wants the sticks, boards, etc. that was in there let me know. I don't have the actual twin eagle board though. I'm back to fixing up the QIX part. Now, how to remove that sticky crud that held the CPO on?

Yeah not to hi jack your thread but I'm also bout to redo a taito cab. My base seems fine might need touching up here and there.

This is my worse side I'm hoping this water damage sands out on the sides here. I guess that what it is where it's swelled out in parts.

Several methods to doing this.. you can go to home depot or lowes and buy a product called "paint stripper (klean-strip makes it)/ goof off" It will literally melt your flesh so be careful. Use a scrapper / sand down after you get it down to the bare metal, Prime / sand / paint. Alternatively I've also used a wallpaper steamer that yielded excellent quick results and no chemicals were used.

Also a great 50 dollar tool to have if you don't own one is a palm sander : http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc...eyword=palm+sander&storeId=10051#.UDeKaqNRd8E
