replacing lunar lander monitor (801) to use (802 or 2000) question.

My Lunar lander was missing its monitor when I got it(I saved it off a loading dock just before it was going to be crushed). So I got an adapter from bob roberts to use 802/v2000.

I plugged the adapter into the cabinet and it works, but I get retrace on the screen(I can turn down brightness and/or contrast and they are still there). I tried a 2nd LL pcb and its the same thing. Monitor works great in my asteroids deluxe..

I am thinking it has to be a transformer issue? Do the jumpers need to be changed on the transformer? Do I nedd to change the transformer? Can I use a Asteroids deluxe transfomer in there?

Have you tried adjusting both brightness and contrast down at the same time (R516 and R526)?

OK. FWIW, I have an early-model Asteroids, which would have originally had a G05-801 in it. Before I got it, someone had put a V2000 in it. The original plugs had been cut off, and the V2000 (same as G05-802) plug was spliced in its place. It works fine. AFAIK, the transformer block is original. I could measure the AC supply to the monitor, if it would help you.

I just put in another transformer assembly and same results. Cant imagine its an audio reg problem, but I will find one and swap it too. Swapped the Audio reg and no change.

Bill. I got your message, just got home and now I am headed to the movies but I will say this. Right now in my garage, I have to working Asteroids, one with the G05-802 and the other is the older one with the G05-801 from the factory. When I got the one with the 801, it had problems. I figured out that the problem was in the transformer assy so I swapped them back and forth between games and the one from the other Asteroids worked fine in the older cabinet. In the end, I swapped the AR boards, motherboards, and transformers back and forth and had no issues once I repaired the one transformer assembly.

Are you sure you don't have a molex plug issue somewhere. A pin that is pushed back or something. Take a good look at your plugs and at the adapter for anything wrong.

thanks guys for the help..

I left out the part of the monitor in the cab image fading away after being on for about 10 seconds.. I recapped it, and no change(going to have to get back to that problem later). With that monitor(v2000), I saw retrace lines with both boards..

So I went to the backup plan, use the monitor in AD. Well, I never tested the orignal LL board in my cab with the AD monitor. It turns out its a board problem with my #2 pcb. The LL pcb in my cab works great with the AD monitor.

The problem is with the spare pcb. Its making the ARII drop from 5.1 to 5.01(board works). It also is not outputting as much video signal as I need to turn the monitor brightness up to see an image. I think thats why its has retrace lines at any visible brightness. So something on the pcb is pulling it down. Any ideas?

On a side note, in my cab, I found a 3rd LL pcb. I think its might be early production. Its dated june 19, 1979 and is a lighter green color to the pcb than normal. Its labeld a034230 (then by hand) -01 101 #2 PP. It has a bunch of jumper wires. For some reason, 3 of the 4 eprom sockets on the bottom row are removed. Either they were replacing bad sockets or maybe someone was trying to make LL run on 1 chip.. I will post a pic of it in a bit..
