Replacing game SVGA CRT tubes w/computer monitor tubes?

Anyone successfully transplanted a computer monitor into a video game monitor frame? I am working on a Touchmaster with an 19" SVGA (800x600) style touchscreen arcade monitor. The monitor is having issues, so I was thinking about putting in a true computer monitor, but want to use the same frame, etc. I realize I would need to get a matched sized tube (19") and realize that computer monitors are sized-up or are based on their viewable size (IE. a 19" monitor may only be 18.5 inches viewable). I also understand I *may* gain a little screen size by removing the frame from the computer monitor (around the tube). The other issue is needing a curved tube (for the touch screen) compared to later "flat" computer monitor CRT tubes.

Anyone done this?

Yes i have done this before and its a little harder to change tube and chassis like a arcade monitor. I had to cut some wire from the kneck board to the chassis then but connect them together when i got it all on the arcade monitor frame, i got a 21 inch and it was still a little smaller than a arcade 19 inch monitor, i also left the chassis attached to the bottom plastic of the original casing, i used this in a mame and took it out and put it in a street fighter cab with a converter, to be honest its not worth the trouble of doing it again, took me a couple hours

Thanks for the reply and pictures. My hope was to use the original frame to make it easier to mount in the game. Looks like I'm better off finding a 1024x768 VGA arcade mount monitor.

I did use an arcade frame but the part that holds the cahssis was removed as the pc CRT had a bigger chassis and would not fit, if you look closely at pic 1 the tube was smaller also and had to Jimmy rig it to stay

Yes, I got that. I just didn't realize until after reading your post and doing some other searching that I would really need a 21" computer VGA monitor to match the true 19" size of a game monitor (IE. G07, WG4900, etc.).
