I picked up a DK cocktail yesterday and the fan in it is SUPER loud!

Any idea what fan I can order to replace it? It has a ton of dust caked on it, don't know if is worth pulling the board out to see if cleaning it helps.

Here is a pictures of it:

Thanks!

Clean it out first and see if it makes a difference. Mine was all caked with brown smoky smelling dust and sounded like a jet engine taking off. After cleaning it, the sound was considerably quieter (although still a bit noisy, nothing like a quiet fan on a PC, but definitely better)

Qbass told me his cocktail had none, and that it isn't in the service manual. So I just took mine out.

Even after cleaning it it was super loud. I am not going to run my DK all day anyways, at most 2-3 hours at a time.

Well, it actually is in the manual, it's part number 1-31. At least in my TKG3-TBL-US manual (just checked :) ) As to whether you'll have problems or not, who knows. It's right next to the monitor, and there's not much airflow without it. If you open the lid, you'll probably be ok though.

Alright! :) You convinced me. Put it back in after cleaning it the best I could. Maybe sounds 10-15% less noisy, but damn that thing is still loud.

Have you guys looked into swapping in something like a computer fan? Maybe something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master...L37I/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1329361224&sr=8-4

Typically I like the 120V Ac fans and not your typical DC computer fans.
I rarely ever replace a 120V fan. It seems I always replace 12 V DC fan, Bearing or Sleeve construction. I Like the old metal fans The seem to run for 20 odd some years with out much problems.

Yeah, don't ever take on eout and if one should be in a game, put one in. CT are pretty warm when on, of course not like leaving on all day but still.

I measured chips temps with an infrared thermometer one day and within minutes, chip temps get near 80 deg.

Like the others have said, try cleaning it first and the blades will all be in equal balance. If not, you'll have to find out if its an AC or DC powered fan and replace, I got my AC Ms Pac CK fan from Bob Roberts.
